Hey, I dunno if these are stupid or not, but I dunno the answers.
I have been trying for the past 2-3 weeks to tint my windows with the stick on film shit.. because I am a cheap mother****er.. and I have just decided after an 2 and a half hours of frusteration that I am not wasting any more time and money with that crap.. how much does it genrally run to get your windows tinted somewhere professionally.. I want to tint the side windows (4) 20% and the back window 5%.. aslo is the tint that is done with out the film darker? and Will they do illegal amounts of tint on my car? 50% is the legal limit up here.
Second Question.
I have an automatic, and I want a new shift knob, but I have the ETS button on the side and none of the shift knobs I can find have that. I was wondering if I really need it on the knob,or if I could just put the button somewhere else.. like a cutom switch or soemthing, I really have no idea, I just want a new knob and dunno how I am gunna go about doing that. These might be stupid questions but I figure screw it, this would be the place to ask.
Thanks everyone

I had mine tinted professionally. the film is better quality then the stuff you buy at walmart or someplace like that and in most cases guaranteed. I would think for someone to tint all 5 windows it should be about $200.00. but you would have to check with your local dealer.

The first tint job I ever did was on teh back window of my '86 Camaro. It came out looking good with exception of the very edges where I had to go over the thick part of the defroster. Those I just used electrical tape around the edge and no one ever knew. Its not as easy as it sounds. Working in the shade you need ALOT of water and take it easy not to scratch or tear the tint. Starting from the center work the water bubbles to the closest edge. Once nearly all the bubbles are out move the vehicle into the sun to dry while you finish everything up.
I paid to have our GAGT tinted. Here it was $180 for the whole car (4 door) minus the windshield. The guy who tinted ours has a computer where he pulls up the specs for each vehicle and it prints out the proper sized film. Best of all it has a lifetime warrenty.

Some places will do below legal limits, but you can't just go up and say "Hey, will you give me an illegal tint job?" have the guy come outside, and show him your car and tell him what you want. Generally they will say it will be a cash only deal if they will do it. Some places won't however, especially if they have a reputation to keep up.

Autozone has a couple of chrome style shifters that work beautifully on automatics, one is a top button mount, and the other I believe you just push down on the shifter itself. If you have ever taken off your automatic shifter head, you'll see that its just a straight tube with a piece sticking up in the middle that can be depressed down to release/enter the parking gear. If you go with the top button shifter, tinker with it before you drive off, first time around mine came off while driving, and it sucked.

No question is a stupid question, just means you needed some new knowledge :)

Thank you for the replys.. although my second question wasn't about finding automatic shifters, I have found several, and I have seen several I like, the main part of the qestion was about the little button on the side. not the button you push to put it in gear. know what I mean? thank you for the reply's though, where I live no one has a reputation so I should be able to find a place to tint them illegally.
for TA^Guy, did you tint any roll down windows? I was really having trouble with them because I couldn't, for one, get the bubbles out around the edges, and the second problem was as soon as I would think I had it I would roll it down a little to smooth out the top, which I couldn;'t get to while it was rolled up and the bottom would peel.. I am gunna try and tackle the back windsheild tomarrow.. I'm not sure how that is gunna work out though.. I struggle with those little air pockets..
Another few questions, does anyone know where I could get MOMO or Sparco seatbelt covers? and seat covers.. I can't afford racing seats right now, I was going to order some seat covers.. but they were very corny at Advanced autoparts.. they looked nice. until you relized it said "RACING" in the middle of the seat.. corney things like that annoy me.. if anyone knows where I could find some sparco seat covers/seatbelt covers let me know..
Also, does anyone know where I could get a PONTIAC decal for the windsheild and a GRAND AM decal for the back? like Visor decals or whatever they are called? I have looked in all the auto parts stores around here and they have none.
Thanks again.

I don't see any reason why you can't relocate the ETS button. On my 01, it is on the dashboard, so GM decided to move it also.
Now the trick on the rolling windows is: roll the film just a little, and smooth the top first, roll it up the rest of the way, and smooth the bottom down. That should solve that problem for you.
Most of us here on GAOC get our decals from one of two places. Either Graphix Works or Alter Impact.... check them out.

Thanks again.
About the tint, should I take the door pannel off to put the film on? I think I might take another attempt at this tomarrow.. chances are I will just get frusterated and come back to the idea of getting it done professionally... but what the hell, I got a day off from work and.. no friends.. so we'll try it again. any tips on doing the back window? cause it has compound curves and I had to get special stuff that was cut in strips.
I think I am gunna try and move that switch too, I just gotta find a place. any suggestions?
Thanks.

^yeah, I tried to do it once before and ripped everything up in a fit of rage haha. I really don't want to spend 200 dollars to thint the windows professionally.. when I could put that twords a system, body kit, or rims. so I am gunna give it another shot today.. maybe it will work today... maybe every other day was just a bad day... (gotta think positive) I love the warning that comes with the tint that says "only attempt tinting windows when calm and relaxed" hahaha Cause if you are already pissed.. and you try it you are liable to kill someone.
Anyone know a good place to get decals? nothing major, just something that looks clean? I was kinda looking at stripes but all I could find at advanced autoparts and VIP were black and white ones. I need blue.
Thanks

I have a 98 GA and I was able to move my ETS button, you just may have to splice in more wire to get it where you want it
