I would like to know if it is possible to exchange a 94 grandam instrument console for one in a 93 GT. They are the same dimensions, so i know it will fit, but i would like to know if i have to run extra wires or if it will be very complicated.
Thanx, Gord

You should be able to swap with any instrument panel from any 92-95 grand am. As to what's involved to get the extra guages on the sport cluster to work is beyond my knowledge.
Worst case scenario you'll have to run 2 wires into the engine bay for oil preassure and the tach sensor. Then any 12v source for the voltmeter. And/or you might need to snag some electronics from the donor car to replace the ones in yours for everything to work right.
Best case scenario all the wires are already there waiting to be plugged into something.
I could be quite wrong though.

I just tried to switch out the basic se guages with GT guages in my 95 GA last night. The tach, fuel, alt, water and odometer worked as soon as I plugged them in. The oil needle pegged to the right as I believe the polarity between sending units for guages is the opposite of idiot lights. I am going to switch that out tomorrow. The speedometer is dead. No movement at all. Not sure if it is bad, or if it is because I pulled it from a V6 and I have a dohc quad 4. Let me know if you learn anything more.

Dont believe its possible, I know on the newer gauges the Odometer is stored onto the gauges as well as the cars computer but somehow when you switch gauges the Odometer isnt accurate. Also on the newer GA's the SE gauges go to 120 and GT go to 150 so there is some calibration issues there and im sure its the same on the older.
Im just wondering what the advantage is to switching to a GT gauges in the first place. They are basically the same other than the speedo goes higher which is null and void anyways because of the governor. :???:

if you have a older ga 92-95?.
If you have a 3300 v6, you need to pull a cluster out of a v6 3300 gt. If you have a 3100 you need one out of a 3100 gt. Get it? From what people in the past said, if put a I4 gt cluster in a v6, the RPM would be off but ever thing else would work. besides the the oil sending unit. As for the oil guage, just go to the part store and get a sending unit that is made to work with the needle guages. Ask for a sending unit and they will give you two choices to choose from.
96-99 grand am the gt and se cluster are the same.

On 92-95 GAs the optional cluster was offered as an option to SEs so they're not GT specific. The standard cluster had only three gauges: Coolant temp, fuel, and a speedo that went up to 110 mph. The optional cluster added a tach, oil preassure, voltmeter, and a speedo that goes up to 120 mph. I'm glad my SE came with the optional one as the standard cluster is horribly ugly in comparison. I can understand why some people would go through the trouble of switching.
The odometer for either cluster is mechanical so the new cluster will only show the mileage of the car it was pulled from.

I thought the speedo's are different in the GTs?
