Hey, long time no talk, first time on this section of the forums. I found a 1989 2.0L turbo in a local paper. Says it's an LE, all power, great on gas?, and it's for 1350/Neg. Anything in particular i should look for when checking out this car. I'm definately going just to see it, if not definately buy it. Any and all help, of course is greatly appreciated.
I WANNA BE PART OF THE 2.0L TURBO CLUB!!

well, i would take the intake pipe off the throttle body and turbo, check for oil, if you see any then the turbo has to be rebuilt. check to see how much boost your getting, it should be about 5 psi. 1350 is alot, i think thats mint condition blue book price, i picked mine up for 500.
and it had to be rebuilt at 118000 miles, it spun a bearing on the number one cylinder.

yes check the turbo if its toast youll be buying the car again to replace it mine cost 898 to rebuild it.
pull off the intake pipe to look for damaged blades its hard to get a look but if your determined youll find a way use a mirror if you have to a little damage to the turbo means its toasted oil in the throttle body is a big sign its toasted.
really other than that the rest or the car is no different than any other .

sorry to take so long to respond, i haven't been on in a while. I didn't get the car, he must've sold it immediately, i called and got no answer back.. what are you gonna do, i'im dying to get another grand am, i miss my 99 so much, even with it's engine problems :-( i see good condition 91's which was my original and i want them, i see 99's and up and die to have the money for them. I have two saturns right now which i'm trying to get really nice lookin' to get rid of them to gimme the money to buy a 99+ ga. They're both 92's. very good running after working on them. so i'm hoping i can get 3500 or so out of both of them, and use it towards a ga or a NEW SCT in it's special final year.
