View Full Version : But eyelids cover up the turn signal....

I want to do the vinyl eyelids on my GA headlights to cover up the ugly looking amber piece. But if I cover that up like I see many of you have done, wouldn't it be illegal? I can't see how I could get away with covering up the turn signal...

Am I wrong, and maybe enough light does shine through?

If you live in the Toronto area and have done this mod let me know how the police have received it.

no because you still have the inner most bulb that blinks,as long as you have a signal in your headlights your fine.

I guess it's a "Do at your own risk" type of thing? Because the people beside me won't see my indicator...

Looks like i'm going to go do this then. So what type of vinyl am I looking for? Is there a certain type I need to stand up to weather? Plus I live in Canada, will it fall off in the dead of winter?

Go to a local sign making shop... I went to this place (its in my town): quality signs and design (http://www.qualitysignsanddesign.com)
Tell them what you are doing and ask if they would have any extra scraps laying around. (I got mine for free, just haven't put them on yet)
For a good how-to installation, click here (http://www.angelfire.com/ga4/papiogagt/headlightvinyl.html)

Hope this helps.

Oh, and you might have some issues about the covering the reflectors (which I believe is also illegal). I am making reflective silver inlays for those notches by the foglights to cover that aspect. Check out my car domain to see them.

That is simply not true. Both american and Canadian federal law mandates that every motor vehicle had clearly visible AMBER reflectors on both sides of the front of the vehicle.

Covering up the reflectors IS DEFINITELY illegal.

Now, will you get ticketed/hassled for it? Probably not. The possibility is still there though and it is a do-at-your-own-risk mod.

I like how you did those Pontiac Symbols! I did the vinyl last night. I'm just getting used to how it looks. The more I look at it the more stock it looks. It's growing on me.

I'll post pics when I get home from work. My car is red and the eyelids are black. It was risky, but I like the result because it blends with the black rubber surrounding the headlight unit.

Do you have a template for those Pontiac symbols? I figure having the Pontiac symbols cut into the vinyl will allow enough of the reflector to show through that it could be considered legal. I just don't want a $100 ticket for putting a $1 piece of vinyl on my car.

On a side note... I don't think they made those clips, holding the headlight on, hard enough to pull up! I damn near brok my finger off.

You can do what I do, have a blinker window. It reduces the amount of amber showing and keeps them legal. Mine look great. Check out the pictures on my website.

Everyone seems to love what I have done with my headlights. I got the stuff from customgrandam.com.
