I have a '91 ga with a VIN D Quad 4, 150k. This motor still has some juice but im really looking into putting a different motor in it. I know there is a plentifull supply of parts for ecotecs, so why not put one in my '91?? My friend has a 2k2 ga with the ecotec and it seems to have alot more power than my 91, considering it puts you back in your seat better and the 2k2 ga is heavyer. Anyway, sorry to bore you.. How hard would it be too do this? I definetly dont want too keep this 3 speed trany, it sucks soooo bad. 55mph in 1st gear...... just not right.

or why dont you drop in a LGO. the ecotec may have alot of aftermarket, but so does the 2.3L plus the LGO makes 180hp compared to the L61 take makes 140hp. with the LGO you can put in some W41 cams and the ECU and have 190hp then some internals and so on you will make over 200hp.

LGO swap would be the best... you can get the LGO pcm, and motor you're in for power fun...

if you really want to drop in an ecotec get the 2.0L from a Saab or Saturn Red Line... or just get the 2.2L and put a 2.0L head on it and turbocharge it.

Thanks for the speedy reply. When you talk about LGO.. is that just the HO version? Havent had much experience with all the different quads out there. I guess a better way to put this is that i want this slow looking 4 door ga to haul major ass. Making slow or just slow looking cars go really fast is what i like to do (well, what i want too do anyway :) THanks.

yes the LGO is the rpo code for the 2.3L quad 4 HO. just like the ecotecs is L61 and so on. But you could for sure make the motor you have fast without even buying a LGO (though there are a few parts that you would need to do this, and you might be able to just get a LGO for cheaper, but who knows) but anyways, the biggest things that are different from the LD2 to LGO is the head, cams, exhuast manifold, intake manifold, pulley (i think) and pistons, and most importantly the ECU.

But click on the banner in my sig, youll find alot of help there too.

Thanks alot, one more question. I had an 88 ga with a vin d quad in it. But it had different intake and exauhst manifolds on it than my '91. The exauhst manifold on the 88 looks almost like a header and the intake just has 4 tubes straight off the tb bent around to the head. Are these intakes & ex. manifolds better than the one i have now?

So what does a HO intake look like? I thought there was only 2 intakes ever designed for the quad, a lo and a ho, guess im wrong.

If you switch to the Quad 4 HO, you'll have to switch to a 5 speed manual tranny for sure. To get all the power you'll have to rev the engine to about 6800 rpm with the HO, 7200 rpm with the W41.

This FAQ should help:

ACE120 on quad4forums.com has swapped out his Quad OHC w/ 3 speed automatic to a Quad 4 HO w/ 5 speed manual. He might be able to help you out too.
