to start off, i hate power windows. ive had all 4 of my windows redone because i bought my car used and they all either didnt work or were dying. the first one i had done independently at a auto shop. ok, well last week sometime i heard my window give out. the motor was spinning but it wasnt catchin onto anything. well the other day, i heard somethin crack or whatever, and now the window wont go up at all, i have to manually pull up and down the window. now i know that isnt right because you shouldnt be able to just pull up a window. soooo, im left to wonder what it could be. im callin up the power window repair man tommorrow to get answers and a estimate of price. if anybody can help me by then, id appreciate it. thanks. (p.s. the motor is fine, its whatever the motor catches on to, that is broke i think)

It's the window regulator itself. It's a track with a cable attached in a loop to a bracket that's attached to the window. Usually what happens is the cable breaks and causes the problem you have.

It is best to find out what is wrong first, but if it is the regulator they are very expensive...over $250 canadian each.

its gotta be cheaper. i was reading over some searches on google, and they were saying theyve replaced them for cheap without replacing the regulator. just the cable. anyways, plz i hope its not tht much

Why bother buying new ones? All GA regulators go bad in a hurry. I remember on the old board someone was trying to get a recall going. 3 of mine are practically done, and 2 of my friend's are dead.

because its embarassing to have to pull your window up and down , and also to hear that nasty sound when you use the window control. thats why

if you get a new regulator, you're going to end up having to pull them down again anyway. All you're doing is repeating a very costly cycle. I'm wondering if there are any companies that have made their own regulators, or other window parts that would help out. Probably not, but anything would be better than the crap that GM stuck in there.
