I dont own a grand am or anything but im helping out a friend find some guauges for a 98 grand am gt. I thought id ask you guys since you all know these cars better than I do. Anyway on procarparts.com there are reverse indiglo gugages for that car but it says manual transmission. what I need to know is are the guages still the same as the automatic transmission. in other words can I install those guages in an automatic? thanks

I am not positive but I think that they would be the same.. From what I can see is that with manual tranny there is the Tach guage in the dash and most Auto tranny cars there is no Tach unless it is a sporty version of a car.. My GT has a Tach in it.. So I dont see any difference between Manual and Auto Guages. With your friends being a GT I would have to say that he has a Tach guage as well so the manual guages would fit..

I have a 1997 Grand Am SE with automatic transmission. I think, but am not certin that my gauges and a 98 gauges are the same, if they are, then the manual reverse gauges will fit automatic. The only thing is on the reverse gauges, there is a little light, that if you did have a manual transmission would light up the words shift and a little arrow, but since you are gonna put it on an automatic, it wont, and its barely noticable. I have a pic here on my cardomain page... http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/522483
I got mine on ebay for i think 30 or so bucks, the company who make them are otto racing.

You need to get a guage set like this
http://i23.ebayimg.com/01/i/02/1a/b3/38_1.JPG
It also has to be for a car with the same engine as yours or the rpm will be off. Then you need to add a oil pressure sending unit
Pm redgrandam for help

You just confused the hell out of me. That is a gauge cluster for an older grand am. The older grand ams had the option of no tach, but not the newer ones. All 96-98's have the same gauges. The manuals just have a shift light. The automatics have the shift light also but there is no bulb. I saw it when i installed my pcp gauges. They said they were for a manual but they fit perfect.
Here's a few pics.
