One of the features of my GA is a "sealed for life transmission". It even says in the owners manual that the tranny fluid and filter never need changed.
I know nothing about trannies really, but my first instict is to go ahead and drop the pan every 50,000 or so. Any advice?
Thanks!

You can still change the fluid and filter just like you used to. The fill and level check procedure is a little different is all. You need to check it from under the car with the engine running in park and the tranny hot.

but the only down side is after pulling the 11mm plug a few times you cant tell how much fluid is in it. the fluid will run out till it hit the level of the plug. theres no way that i know of to check the safe level of the fluid.

so.. that bolt to check the transmission fluid.. is on the passenger side near the lower part of the tranny or what?... I would also like to change my tranny fluid in the near future (and I think it sucks how the new GAs don't come with tranny dipsticks and what not... and even to fill the tranny ya gotta remove the air filter housing... just a pain in the butt.

if you get under the passenger side and look between the oil pan and right output shaft you will see the 11mm screw. just remember you have to check it running. the best way to do it is back it out just before it comes out this way when its running you can pull it and put it back in without losing a lot of fluid.

I drive a big truck When I began driving there were very few trailers with "self adjusting" brakes. If I was going southbound on I-5 towards L.a. I stopped at the top of Grapevine hill & crawled under the truck with my tools & made sure. That was 18 years ago- now we've all got self adjusters on our brakes & even engine exhust brakes that are excellent. (I've pulled upholstry out of my butt for the last time!!)But, each time I back under a trailer Iget my tools out & make sure. Self adjusters are fine as long as you keep them adjusted!I change the fluid& filter in both of our ga's every 12 months & use the fluid & filter pontiac specifies. Gabe
