Unfortunately, we do not have carbon fiber hoods for the older grand am.
The VIS MSRP on these hoods is $499 because they are a limited production hood that they made just for us. Once the 10 we have are gone, it is unlikely that they will continue production.
We can request another batch after these 10 are gone, but it took us 8 months to get these.

The hood has as much carbon fiber as any other carbon fiber hood on the market. None of them are 100% carbon fiber except for the carbon fiber used in professional F1 racing, and things like that. If the hood were 100% carbon fiber, they would run about $3000. This hood, as well as any other hood on the consumer market is fiberglass with a real carbon fiber overlay. The hood itself weighs rougly about 25 lbs.
As far as pics of the underside, what type of pics would you like to see?
We do not make the carbon fiber hoods in any other color than black.

I was under the impression that MY carbon fiber trunk is completely carbon fiber minus the bracing underneath for structural integrity. When I receive the carbon fiber hood and other products in a few days I can ask the company that is producing them for me; my understanding is that they are 100% carbon fiber and not nearly as expensive as you have noted.

I spoke to VIS today, and they said that there is no way to make a 100% carbon fiber hood for a factory car. In order to make something 100% carbon fiber, it must go through a vacuum process, and VIS said that they do it with their wings, but they cannot with the hoods. Although the underside of the hood (excluding the skeleton) may look like carbon fiber, it is not. The material that the company used to lay the carbon fiber over has been gel coated black to match the carbon fiber.
VIS hoods are as close to 100% carbon fiber as you can get.

Hmm..I'll have to ask Monday. All my parts are being manufactured by GTP International (www.importfan.com).

CF is cheaper, and I like it better, go with the CF, it is more unique than an SD

I guarantee you that the VIS quality Carbon fiber is far better than GTP. In this industry VIS is known to have better quality products than GTP. Even with the fiberglass body kits. If you ask other manufacturers of fiberglass and carbon fiber parts, about VIS and GTP, they will usually say "our parts are almost as good as VIS, but much better than GTP"

Im no spokesman for VIS but my friend has their Invader CF hood on his accord and after seeing it in person its VERY light and just doesn't look like a black hood stuck on a car trying to imatate a CF hood,it looks like one coming at you.Would deffly buy if they made one for the 96-98,JSP is the only company right now and theirs is 600 or so.This hood is deffly worth the money:)

The under part of the hood is more like a fiberglass but not pure,im sure its a blend that most companies use since most hoods for aftermarket aren't 100% CF.....Now Veilside, thats a whole different thing, they are 100% CF,not 3000 bucks for one but its like 1000.

Then it's odd that GTP is the number one distributor in the WORLD. :roll2: Whatever. I'm outta this one. I got my carbon fiber parts...:)

that is very boring, you should consider making a gt or sct style ones with functional scoops.

How well do those carbon fiber hold up in the winter? I get lots of
chips from rocks and such.

Thank you for those who have participated in the group buy. The group buy is now over, but you can still purchase them direct, but not at the group buy discount.

But once again, owners of the "older models" are being left out of the loop in cool aftermarket parts... :O
