Was wondering if anyone could answer a few simple questions???

Ever had headers put on this engine?

What type?

How Much?

How long does it take for a "pro" to install?

I have single exhaust, will I need dual?

If yes, what type exhaust?

Finally, what type of performance can I expect? Will it really be noticable?

Thanks for taking your time to help me in this decission.

I dont have em yet, hehehe, but theres S&S headers (soon to come out) and The Other Guys headers.
S&S = $350 uncoated $500 coated
TOG = $700 nickel coated $850(I think) ceramic coated
It should take anywhere between 4-6 hours to install
You dont need a dual exhaust to use either.
Performance is noticeable across the WHOLE powerband. It was dyno tested by someone on GAGT (I think it was John from APOC) and got 19hp from it and a good amount of torque too.

S&S has already released their header setup for the 3400 - the 3100 will be out soon, although if one wanted, the 3400 headers will fit a 3100. The OEM exhaust manifolds are the same on both cars.

Here's S&S' site, if you scroll down you will see them listed. http://www.ssheaders.com/4Cylinder.htm As far as TOG, there's several different places that sell them, that's strictly personal preference. APOC has them listed for $685, http://www1.ecxmall.com/stores/americanperformance/Detail.bok?searchpath=d8346805f3aa14774a47&category=Alero%2FGrand+Am+Performance&start=1&total=17&no=70

would the coating be necessary. I mean, i want to get some but dont want to spend to much. What will this coating do, extend the life or something.

how many would get the coating.

This may be stoopid, but could the coating have anything to do with appearance? They have powder coated colored intake manifolds, colored plug wires, wire loom, and other stuff, so I thought that may be a reason too. Maybe not, I don't really know to be honest.

Coating is for performance, certain coating (ceramic) offers better resistance against heat so if your car has been running for a little while, no hp will be lost due to the heat. Also, it wont corrode or at least as easily as uncoated. As far as I know, you cant get coating in different colors (red, blue, etc.) on headers.

Cool, now I know. Is the performance increase worth the extra money for coated? I wonder what dyno tests show on coated vs. non-coated?

I dont think it would be enough to notice on a normal street driven car. The headers themselves would make worlds of difference over the restrictive factory manifolds.

I think the major desired effect behind header coatings is longevity. The headers will last alot longer if they're coated. They will be far more resistant to rust, cracking, and burning if they have the coating on it.

Does anyone know how much the installation would cost for them to be put in? My friend's dad builds racecars, so im sure i could get him to put them in, but i was just wondering the range for kicks and giggles.

On average it takes V6s 4-6 hours so figure $60/hr and you are looking at between about 250 and 350
