so my GA has a joystick thingy to adjust the drivers side mirror, or at least it had one. I geuss it fell into the door so I now have a hole. Has anyone ever fixed this or is this a lost cause. If a lost cause is there something that I can fill the hole with

Pry the plate up, grab the joystick and reinstall it in the hole.

I checked with the GM dealer and the only way to get it fixed according to them is to buy a whole new mirror for 90 bucks.

I fished mine out and took a washer that goes on a water hose. Spray painted it flat black to match. It stretched to fit perfectly around the base. A dab of super glue and it's all fixed. I'm afraid to try to use it though. :D At least it looks 10 times better.

The factory black plastic grommet for the joystick is a PITA.

It's only meant to snap 'in' when the car is assembled, and virtually impossible to remove without breaking when you need to remove the door panel for window or lock service.
It nearly ALWAYS breaks, no matter who is doing the panel removal.

Consequently, many GM dealers have a box of these little suckers handy in the shop for replacement when THEY break them trying to fix a window.
They're about $2.50 over-the-counter as a GM part.

Good luck.

yes, the grommets are available as Rix said. You will need to pull the door panel off, push the "thingy" from inside the panel trough the hole, the grommet snaps onto the "thingy" and then you can set it in the hole, then using a suitable size socket and hammer, slip the socket over the "thingy" and tap it into the hole until it seats. Reasemble the door panel and your "thingy" is as good as new.
