I know this is very stupid to convert a 4door too a 2door, you may ask why not just buy a 2 door. But i was just wondering has anyone tried this conversion. I would like to try it when i get my new car as i have a 4 door and 2 door grand am atm (89 and 91). It looks like you would just cut out the middle section of the side of the body and switch 'em.. what do you all think?

You will lose the structural integrity of the car. Plus I would think that the four door is slightly longer than the two door? I dont think your one door is as long as two doors, maybe Im wrong but I just dont think so.

Well when I look at mine and compair it to a 96 - 98 4 door. The roof is longer, i'm sure the seats are spaced farther apart, from back to front I mean. Turning a 4 door into a 2 door seems like an idea that wouldn't work. You'd be better off just buying a 2 door.

what about taking off both rear doors and fabricating the body to extend to the front doors. sure it would take a lot of work and money, but im sure it can be done.

Great idea! Put in a hatchback while you're at it.

Hatchback... lol... What would you call a grand am with a hatchback?? But actually the way the 8?-91 ga's are it wouldnt bee too extreemly hard to do that, just alot of measuring and thinking. My motor just pooped out on me the other day so i wont be doing a dam thing too my car for a while. Oil pump costs 140 for this quad 4. Crazy if you ask me....

i believe they called that a short two door or something like that? there was a guy with an ex police car (chevy caprice ) to be exact. I think what he did is weld the seams up and did some body work etc etc to make it that way. looked nice when it was done, but it wasn't my cup of tea either

I just remember what my dad told me about cars *no matter how good your car looks,...it could be the best looking car in the city etc. not everyone will favor it or like it.

lots of people like my car and lots of people don't like it. thats what makes my car well... mine. Don't ever let anyone discourage you from anything.

making a 4 door to a 2 door would be work but its very possible, like the pic above, just mold in the rear doors(mold in the seams, take out the jams,hinges,etc.... and shave the door handles,it will look different but will catch attention,on some cars you can just tell it was a 4 door or not.

I have seen this done to a gti. They cut the car behind the door and the welded the back end of a jetta to it to make a jetta coupe. Def. Different. Its on vwvortex.com

Chopping the top would look cool if you're going to take a saw to it. Lead sleds FTW.

I say try it.. you could make a midget two door with a 4-door cause the doors a really short for the 4-door versus the 2-door. It would look weird but definitely unique.

That blue car does look like poop. What was the point of welding the doors up? It didn't change the look of it any, still have short doors in front and now makes it even hard to access the back seats (if there are any).

Theres always the green 2 door evo that was converted to a two door.

Aside from the neon green paint, yes the rear door shave looks sweet.

the rear door isnt "shaved" the whole wheelbase is shorter.

the car in the pic, since the Seams appear to be welded, I guess one would have to crawl over the front seats to get in the rear?

This only makes sense on a car that isn't available as a coupe. Otherwise you can just go buy one.

This isnt a converted EVO....ive been an avis subscriber to super street for 5 years and that was in one issue. That car has always stuk out to me, but it is actually a german-based 2-door EVO.....thats it. No 4-door converted into a 2-door......it was a acid-dipped, 2-door EVO to begin with......

um, you do understand that the car in question had about 10 inches or so chopped out of it? They dont make a 2 door version of the evo 9, only 4 doors. I dont know how to be any clearer then this thread below. If you need help reading it let me know.

http://www.tremek.com/forum/mitsubishi-videos/13999-9-7-evo8.html

"To build an Evo this light has meant the car has undergone some major weight loss and incredible engineering, including a substantial amount of the bodyshell being removed to make the car shorter and lower. In fact it is 10inches shorter and 3inches lower than a standard Evo 9 shell. With the shell customised this much, the rear doors have been removed creating the world's first Short Wheelbase 2-Door Evo...."

So please know what your talking about before you try and correct someone.

Go to that link and reread the info under "Chassis/Wheels:".

"custom 2 door short wheelbase low roof Evolution 9 shell."

so urweak......u would waste the time and money on chopping and cutting a 4-door grand am into a 2-door?? you would apply that theory to doing to that to a 4-door?? no matter what the drivetrain is?? so technically its a 2-door evo like i said....meaning, they didnt just weld shut the back doors and rolled on.....like i said, a 2-door evo. Alot more work went into this project than you actually think.....there has to bo some sort of design flaw to it, because if it made that car any lighter, better in any way....dont you think mitsubishi would've designed that in the 1st place?? u ever seen a 2-door concept EVO?? a 4-door EVO would more than likely still whoop up on that 2-door.......
