I have a 92 Grand Am with a 3.3 V6 with 168000 miles on it. It is leaking coolent with motor running or not. I removed the cover from the bottom of the tranny and I can see fluid running done the flywheel. I am taking a wild guess that there are freeze plugs at the back of the motor and that is where my leak is. My questions aare if that sounds correct and if it is, is it easier to remove the tranny or the motor?

IMO, the tranny is a lot easier to remove. You can usually get one out in an hour or so if yo u know what youre doing.

Definately easier to remove tranny if you have the equipment. You need a support fixture for the engine, a hoist and a suitable tranny jack just to name the big stuff.
Are you sure it isn't the lower intake leaking? It could be sneaking right between the motor and tranny matting surfaces and running down the flywheel.
Don't hold me to this, but I don't think there are freeze plugs in the back of the block...just on the sides of the block (under the exauhst manifolds) and in both ends of the heads?

As far as the leak I looked all over the top of the tranny and it looks completly dry and the amount of water is more than a trickle. As fast as I poor the water in it comes right out the bottom . As for the freeze plugs in the back of the motor I got that info from another thread on this sight called freeze plug locations. I am tring to locate a repair manual to see for sure.
