I just picked it up yesterday! 1998 GAGT 2.4L 5-speed w/ 53000 miles. It runs strong and is in pretty good shape with only a few minor flaws.

I just did a tune up and change-over to synthetic today. Tomorrow comes a 2.3 HO mani + TB, and later this week, a secret cam swap. :)

It looks very nice, a good find.

I'm just wondering why about half of the GA's I see here and on the road, in all years, are white. Another quarter or more are black, and the remaining amount is made up of all other available colors. I guess they are just the top sellers?

Didn't catch this thread before... again, nice find for the price.

I'm glad I helped convert Rob to the darkside of GA's... 2.3/2.4 5-speed. :D

well... unfortunately it sounds like it put a valve out of whack tonight. There are a few things in life that could get me more upset at this point. I expected this engine to do well - and what does it deliver me? Lost compression.... ar5ghghghahghqahgs...

words do not describe this feeling....

yeah, final diagnosis:
- bent valve and detonated lifters

... so I'll need a new camshaft housing, exhaust valves, lifters, and retainers - everything else looks good. I hope to have the car running by next weekend.

You can put in the secret cams while you are in there.

Thanks John - hopefully I'll get some free time after the damn car is finally running again to stop over and hang out with you guys... :(

How would the different cams work with an Automatic GA?

I can't imagine there being much of a problem. I don't think you'll stall at all at lights because they're relatively mild - and extremely cheap!!!

- it all comes down to whether you like wrenching on your engine or not... swapping the cams is a piece of cake - I could do both cams in about 2.5 hours.

the only side effect that I could think of when dealing w/ the cams could be a "floating throttle" when the idle doesn't come right down after letting off the gas - but that's a manual issue. You might experience minimal surging at idle speeds - but any differences will be negligable.
