oil pressure

can someone tell me what the oil pressure is supposed to be at idle and can someone tell me how to check to see if the guage is working correctly

my oil pressure keeps bottoming out wen it idles for a little wile check guages come on and sometimes it almost stalls this is only wen warm tho cold its stays up.

I had that problem with the oil pressure guage on my '89 Sunbird. It was the sending unit. As far as the oil pressure mine stayed about the first mark above zero at idle, I had the 2.0L in mine.

I did search both my Haynes and FSM and neither lists oil pressure. Sounds like your idle is dropping too low. When idle speed drops, your oil pressure drops off. See what you can do to get the warm idle up. Check for vacuum leaks and check the timing. Then there's the obvious...do you have enough oil in the car?

Does the pressure drop if you hold you foot on the gas to keep rpm about 1k...with car warm?

I had the same problem on my old motor. I just had to replace my motor. Get it checked out by a mechanic. One hour of labor is cheaper than a motor! Trust me I wish I would have taken it to a reputable mechanic (not Sears Auto Center).

well heres the catch the motor has 840 KM on it just rebuilt and it idles warm at 1000 rpm sometimes droping to about 900 rpm monday its going back to the shop it waz built im surley not running it low oil i check it daily i spent to much to beat it up and have to do it again .
other than that this oil pressure thing drives me crazy so i hope its fixed monday .

the problem is the oil pressure switch is all messed up soon as i get the chance im replaceing it just low on funds trying to do exhaust and other stuff but soon as i have the spare money im getting it done.
