I was recently working on a F#*$ Escort ( I know many of us don't want to hear the word) and I noticed that their 1.9L engine came with roller cam and lifters, which obviously reduce friction and help engine accelleration. I came to wonder, would a roller setup for the Quad4 help with engine performance?, and weither it has been done or even attepted before? What do you guys think? I searched Mantapart and didn't find anything, but what would your predictions if anyone in general successfully made and roller cam quad 4 engine?

Disclaimer... Realistic answer ahead.
Ain't gonna happen. Quad 4's have direct lifters... some other 4 bangers do not. Such a thing would require new cam towers, etc. No need to re-invent a large portion of the engine. Yes, there would be a less parasitic loss, but the costs of such a mod would negate the gains... especially when you could go forced induction instead.
IMO the Quad 4's don't need it. It's a hearty 2.3 liters, and the currenty lifter setup shows very little wear. I have ripped apart a few high mileage Quad 4's (150K-200K+ miles) and seen no signs of lifter/cam wear.
