It's the Manatpart "OLDS Firehawk" style chip that they recently began making for the '94 HO GT. Previously posted in the 2.3 section. Here's their hype on it:

These are full sports profile chips made by the guy who did the Olds Firehawk chips, so they arent just a fudged one like some of the W.coast guys send. It is a fully remapped fuel and spark curve and gives a solid 10-15 hp even on the 94 engines with their smalled exht. port- these were made for each spec engine exactly, and we are now having them done for us at a considerable cost. They up revs to 7400 and take out the top speed limiter too, we arent making much on these, but they are the best.

Pn8man - We don't know for sure yet, but I expect the GA will be quicker. I haven't run it yet. As soon as the snow clears. He's modded it some already, Headers and exhaust, and he's planning an intake manifold and cam an open air-cleaner for the spring. We'll see, but the GA is lighter...

Here's an old view of my center console.
http://members.roadfly.com/largefish/oldgarad.jpg

I'll have to get a new shot up with the JVC HU and better clean up those HVAC knobs, also. :O Still haven't got the 10 M. xcvr. back in since the swap.

Before swapping the HUs, I found my right rear speaker was blown, so I picked up some Jensen Triaxials. Much better than the stock drivers and nice blue color. Here I have them sitting above the deck.

LargeFish
03-15-2003, 07:53 AM
I decided on mounting the speakers below the deck with the grill frame above. Too bad they will be out of view once I put the deck lid back in place.

LargeFish
05-03-2003, 08:20 PM
I gotta get this thing fixed, putting too much milage on the Camaro. Anyhow, I yanked the cd player out since I'm getting the stock head fixed cheap and we only have a cassette head in the Windstar. So I sent the JVC over to the dark side and the harness I got plays thru the amplifiers in the van and it really sounds great.

07-13-2003, 04:53 PM
wow, how hard has it been to do the swap?

LargeFish
07-13-2003, 04:57 PM
Not hard from where I'm sitting. My mechanic is doing it, so the only hard part will be paying him...

LargeFish
08-17-2003, 08:07 PM
The intake wasn't done the way I wanted it but my mechanic got pretty frustrated on the car as the injectors in the engine didn't work and there was also a problem with the ignition module. I'll redo the intake in the spring so for now I'm WAI, but won't make much difference in the winter. I've got to repair the front brakes and if all goes well I may even have new tires/wheels here in time for Albany. Have to get 500 mi. on it so I can get the oil changed before I leave and I may even be able to take some runs with any luck.

The new '93 W41 motor now has about two miles on it, but didn't come with an IDI cover so I had to swap the original '94 HO cover over. Tomorrow morning I gotta get rotors and pads and I'm out on some extended test driving...

WOW ... looks great bud ... you gonna try and bring it to Albany?

LargeFish
08-19-2003, 09:42 PM
Well, I had hoped to, if everything went right Monday I'd be driving it now. I took that day off in hopes of getting it ready. Got my pads exchanged at Midas and went to Summit and picked up some powerstop rotors (My son bought a Harwood 3" cowl hood for his '87 Z28 also) but when I got to work on it I discovered one of the calipers was cashed and there is also a little problem with the clamp on the cv boot on that side. Damn. So looks like I'm gonna miss Albany since I'm gonna spend Saturday finishing things up. I got the caliper tonite, it was only $15 w/ the core so I'm half thinking of replacing the other even though it seems OK. Once the car is running I'm snagging new Summer wheels/tires and the stocks will be for the winter use only. Only way I could go is if I took Friday off, but I need my brother's help on some of this and I don't think he'll be available 'til Saturday... And even if he was I can see jumping in the car and driving it 500 miles with all this fresh work. Gotta get that much milage in locally before I'm comfortable...

Latest mod, car is running. Yay. Finished brakes Saturday, but found on Monday AM that the injectors were throwing code 19 after about 10 miles of driving.

:thumbup2: That's one good looking ride, but you know I'm a sucker for the older GAs!!! I'm glad to see you're getting close to having it finished. I can't wait to see it run at the track....I'll probably get a real good look at your back bumper if we line 'em up!!

LargeFish

This pic shows the Injector type Manta sent to replace the ones that came in the W41 on top and my original '94 HO injector on the bottom. Not real great quality, but thought it was odd how the 89-90 vintages ones sent were just a little longer. The Manta replacements worked sort of, but limited range to about 10 miles.

LargeFish
08-25-2003, 11:33 PM
This shows a front view of my stock 94s on the left and the stock W41 injectors on the right. The injectors that came in the engine were the worst according to my mechanic. I just know that when I took the second Manta set out today and put the model year specific ones in, the throttle response really took off...

LargeFish
08-25-2003, 11:37 PM
Thanks, Tom. No show car, but hope to keep it as a daily until it qualifies for Hysterical plates. Just the AC remains right now and the new wheel/tire package. I'm also gonna get a rear sway bar with some of the core credits that are in the works. About 350 miles left in break-in, then I dump the Dino, go Mobil1 and off for a run or two...

Cool rims man!!!!!! I like a lot.....I want your engine...I'd get rid of my V6 in a hot second for a W41 motor and a stickshift, but nothing else :D I love the color, it's just as rare as my Polo Green GT. What size tires are you running now??? Also do you have Leather and/or a sunroof??? Those are the only two options I don't have in mine.

LargeFish
09-11-2003, 12:08 PM
Thanks HH. The wheels are ACE Lola 17 X 7.5" and the tires are Kuhmo Ecsta 712 225/45/ZR17s. No sunroof and no leather. I really wanted the upscale cloth option that was available but the salesman at Sawyers was a gear head and he told me if I ordered I'd get 5 less HP as the car I bought off the lot was one of the last '94 HOs made with the 753 head...

HondaHater
09-11-2003, 01:26 PM
You lose 5hp for ordering??? HAHAHAHAHA now that's funny. 95 GAs didn't lose any HP, as far as I know, so I dunno what that guy was thinking. I have the upscale sport cloth in mine....like i said I have every option besides leather and a sunroof. I love the wheels on your ride...I want some 17" for mine too.

LargeFish
09-11-2003, 01:50 PM
They changed from the 753 to 456 head and if I would have ordered I would have got the later head. They used the 456 thru the end of the Quad4 production in '95. He was right...

HondaHater
09-11-2003, 01:57 PM
Well then I guess you got the better head out of the deal. That's awesome that you are the original owner. I am the 3rd on mine.

It definitely works, I've had it in for 4 years now. It feels much stiffer than stock, more like a German manual transmission.

Well it's back from the dead time, must have been inspired by the re-appearance of the Gravey Train. Some of you may know my GA isn't so much a car as it is a mobile amateur radio station. Where most of you have a passenger seat, I have:

LargeFish
05-19-2007, 03:00 PM
The new addition is a 1982 Kenwood TS-130s 80-10M 100 W HF transceiver. I just got it in today after adding some additional filters to it and making a little repair on the IF board. Made my first contacts mobile on it today on 20 and 40 Meters. It joins the HTX-10 10 meter rig mounted in the dash, the Yaesu FT-712RH UHF rig mounted atop the Drake MS-4 speaker and the Kenwood TH-315a 220 Mhz. handheld rig. Here's more of a closeup of the new rig and the speaker stack:

LargeFish

It's been periodically resurrected, last time was only 10 Mos. back.

Now that I reached that lofty position of GAOTW, let's hope the next resurrection is not pictures taken at the car crusher!
