Where is the casting# on the head?

Im wondering what head is on my grand am but not sure were too look on it for the #. Can you see the number while its on the car or can you only see it dissasembled?

The number is next to the timing chain housing in the bottom of the 'valley' created by the two cam towers (on the head of course). You can see it by taking off the IDI cover. The last three numbers of the casting number are the ones to look for. :)

Well i finnaly got around too looking and all i can see is "245" It looks like all the numbers after that have been filed off or somthing. Why would someone do that? Stupid people

Is there any other way too tell what head it is without removing it?

Not that I know of....but hopefully somebody knows of a way!
