My V6 loses so much power also. It seems like everything is cut in half. I was trying to pass a truck one time and I had the A/C on, usually I have no problem with power issues, but I actually had to turn it off to get enough power back to pass. I couldn't believe it!

So true though. I wonder if there is an easy/cheap solution that will bring some of that power back...probably not since things are usually never easy/cheap, but you never know.

okay the a/c compressor is run off the accessory belt, such accessory belt is linked the crankshaft... the a/c compressor when "turned on to blow cold" has to engage a lil mini clutch deal in there which than forces the motor to sap up more power to keep movin.... um yeah...

turn off your a/c

On my car the a/c cuts out at wot. I remember in the summer getting on the interstate with the a/c on hi and flooring it. Warm air would start coming from the vents.

actully I never noticed that much of a difference. When I had my Saturn with the dual overhead cams. when I turned on the AC the rpm would go down a bit but with the GA I've never notice any difference. Then I hardly ever use the AC

Yeah the ac really sucks the power out of my 2.4! I usually just turn it off and roll with the windows down.

here a funn lil trick i found out after i got my car. stump the gas and go WOT with the ac on, then turn the AC off, feels like a small shot of n2o or something. i know it not much, but i sure as hell can feel it.

Yeah just leave the A/C off for passing and racing.

I ran .7 slower when I forgot to turn my A/C off at the track. It was damn hot waiting in the staging lanes forever :)

yea. AC, we love it so much, but we hate how it robs us blind. lol

My A/C does the same to my engine power, I just leave it off. Although I have a weird question. When I put the temp knob to hot and set the vents to dash and floor, right past the A/C position, the engine sounds like the A/C is on, and my rpm's rise, not for long but it does do it. Is that just because I have to pass the A/C setting or is there a problem?

i think mine does that too. my AC is broke so i cant tell. i got the reg marked AC points then the one just right of them is "compressor on" as well, i can tell by the way the car sounds like with the muffler with AC on.

On my car the compressor will turn on in windshield and feet or when you just have it set for windshield.

yea, thats your defrost. every car i can think of does that. its so the motor warms up faster, which it does, when the compressor is on.

what a/c? *giggles*

it drains power in every motor........same holds true for my V8. turn it off and squal tires........turn it on and you'll get a little sound from them, but not much

yea, but my now AC compressure doesnt want to kick on.

A/C is on when you are in the following modes:

MAX A/C
A/C
Vents/Floor
defrost and floor
defrost

So to answer your question, when you have the knob set for vents and floor, your A/C is running, eating up your fuel. Ah luxury!

RocketFast321

i know my 2001 has a a/c switch. But when the a/c switch is off, and you turn it to Max, Floor&Windshield, and windshield the a/c comes on

well, not sure of the 99+ but with most any car, defrost will turn the A/C compressure on, helps to warm up the motor faster.

Actually, the A/C comes on to take the moisture out of the air. When you have the heat on, the air gets chilled first then heated.

In some cars there is a vacuum switch connected to the compressor clutch wiring. When the vacuum decreases with acceleration, the compressor turns off for more engine power. It's a easy addition to any motor.

i'd say....take the AC out completely....and thats the reason for a sunroof and windows..or you could go convertible....

I think the newer GAs have it summer time a/c on max, floor it and the air gets warm. Well my car does that

me like the chop. :) I can not live without a/c, and i don't trust the power windows in my car

had both my power window motors go out on mine, both at diff times. and for the A/C with the deforst, either way, it still does warm it up faster.
