the egr passage was completely plugged, i had purchased a new egr valve anyway, since one of the coils wasnt working using the test,(thanks slam2316) from this site on the y shaped pins. anyway, i used a "bore snake" of a .22 cal size and it was tough to get through, just kept on spraying and pushing and scraping,i read the how to by mikem220153 and i thought no way could a .45 snake go through that passage way, so, being the stubbern guy i am , i bought a .45 cal snake as well and it got jammed as soon as i started to fish it through, so i sprayed and hacked some more, for about 1/2 hr, then i tryed the .45 and damn it was stiff, was afraid it would get stuck. but in the end got it through. cleaned up for about another 1 and 1/2hrs then popped on the new egr and buttoned everything back up, took it on thte highway for about 20mins and decellerated quickly couple of times, NO LIGHT, wohhoo , thanks alot for everyones help here, i probably could have ran the car with the light coming on every so often but i am anal about my cars, and i wanted to fix it right. without this site i probably would of spent untolds amount of money on this egr fix, i dont think a mech at the dealer would of been so thorough on cleaning the passage way as me, if he would clean it at all!, so i just want to say thanks to everyone who posted what to do. btw my car is a 94 grand am se 3.1, and the pin layout for the obd is different than the pin layout for either OBD I or OBD II, i thought i read on this site, that mine may be OBD I.5,,is there anyway to erase the stored codes in the computer, without going to the dealer, i hate to pay $80.00 for them to work on it for 5 mins, when for some more money i could buy the scanner(maybe) or i could just unplug the battery for 15mins, does anyone know for sure what to do. thanks again johnny.

Just disconnect the negative battery terminal for a half hour or so, and it'll be cleared. Glad you fixed it!

thanks brad97GS, i will give it a go,and disconnect the battery for about an hour. then i will get it read, just to be sure, then i can report back if the battery trick erases the code or not. btw the ses light hasnt come on yet, (fingers crossed), it is great to do this by yourself,i feel proud of my accomplishment. i hope i can help anyone who has the same problem, because without the help of this site, i would of just gone to a garage, and probably never solved the problem. GM should notify everyone of this problem, i think that their customer service has a lot to be desired, especially after the warrenty runs out. (egr problem, and head gasket problem). thanks again, johnny
