i have a 99 se 2.4 and i just changed the spark plugs on it and it still makes a loud rapid ticking what seems to me coming from the internals of the engine but could be wrong, my mechanic is goin to check it out but i wanted to know if any of u could give me some ideas on what is causing my ticking, on previous posts i learned that it might be a rod or bearings or anything in the engine , and one last thing maybe this has happened to someone else and can tell me how much this might run me..TY

i would be its either the lifters or a injectors.. but usually its the lifters... depends on how much mileage you got... but if its lifters just showing signs they are starting to get worn....
i know what ticking your talking about its real low and rapid.
thats the injectors working every 2.4 does it and if u notice on some cars its real loud and the reason ive found they are really loud on those cars is because thier oil hasnt been changed regularly.. i notice that when im getting up near the time to change my oil the ticking gets loud.

hey dude dont replace no head... all you have to do at best is remove the valve cover... and and check for play on each valve stem... for each one try and spin it by hand.. now if all of em spin by using your fingers they are either worn or need to be re torqued.. but at worst... you would replace the valve train.. but even that dont replace no head... that is serious money and dont take our words for something that much make sure you know EXACTLY what it is...

my mechanic came over and said that it wasnt the lifters or injectors but could be the oil pump so that would mean no oil was getting int there and therefore the lifters or whatever would be ticking???.....

its pretty normal for lifters to tick. A lot of times if you change brand oil filters it fixes it, or switch to synthetic.

ok how about this.. when its ticking can you hear it from inside the car? and how noticable.. because you say you hear we have no idea how loud it is... if you can then yes.. immediatly get it looked at or remove the valve cover.. and inspect for anything seriously loose in there... personally thats where its comming from at least from how you describe it
