View Full Version : Quqd4 engine swap 1990 to 1993
I have a 1990 Grand Am with a Quad4 DOHC HO and auto tranny taht my son rebuilt. I also have a 1993 Grand Am Quad4 SOHC with auto tranny. I want to swap the engines as the 1990 body is inpoor shape. Ohter than the motor mounts and exhgaust manifold are there any problems that would make this difficult for a weekend mechanic such as wiring harness, computer, cooling system hook up, etc. Thanks for your help. I don't think there will be any major problems. The wiring may not be exactly the same, but everything from the '93 should hook up to the '90 engine. I would keep all the wiring from the '93 (including the ECM) and just put the new engine in. It will run on the different ECM - you may want to use the OHC's ignition module (at some point the module was changed, but I can't remember the year). It may help to get a PROM chip from a '93 HO and put that in the '93's ECM though.
I'm tired...this might not make sense...
