View Full Version : supercharger?

I don't want to sound like a huge newb or anything, but I was thinking about supercharging my grand am, its just too slow. I searched a bit, but the only charger i found was like 4 grand or some ridiculous amount. I was wondering if i can use a factory charger from another GM car to save the money. I'm not really looking to dump a ton of money into a grocery getter, just can't seem to get away from forced induction.

the only GM supercharger that they make that I know of is the 3.8 in the GTP(Grand Prix GT) and I don't think it will be a direct bolt up to the Grand Am's 3.4.....If your wanting an SC go aftermarket, you'll prolly get more power then a factory one.RSM sells great SC's....That price(4000) actually includes free installation so you have to take that into consideration when you look at the price.

No. Your only worthwhile option right now is the RSM supercharger.

bah, if thats the one for 3 grand, forget it. There has to be something cheap. I can't believe no one has done this already. Like from the GTP or something.

More like 4 grand, $3900, and I believe that is a price drop, since it was 4700 a few weeks ago, I don't think they include install and a stay in their town (3 days while it is being installed) anymore. Your better off getting a Turbo for 3500 anyways, but that is still a lot to me. If you don't want an up front cost Get juice, its the cheapest(up front) solution, but ofcourse it has its downside too....

If you cannot afford to spend a good deal of money, then forced induction isn't for you. You are looking at 3-4K minimum.

There is no other GM product that will fit easily... it would cost more to make it fit than purchasing a S/C for your application.

thanks for the input guys, I think I'm just gonna stay stock for now. There's now way I would ever spend 4 grand on a car that I couldn't at least get into the 12's with. I had no intention of making this car fast when i bought it, just thought maybe there was a factory s/c i might be able to throw on from a diff car. I am just too used to my DSM's where running 13's is a mere $500 job.

why dont you get the turbo set-up from HP?

these guys with superchargers are running 14.0s (at best) mostly 14.5... and they are built... thats horrible...

14.9 with not many bolt ons here :D

sounds like fun. Only problem is, how much boost can a stock motor and stock fuel system handle? I don't wanna be puttin a hole in a piston, just to come out with a 13 second time slip.

well if i decide to keep this car for a while, we'll find out. But I prolly won't keep it more than a few more months, and if i do i'll have a weekend car with a little more powerplant to build on. but ya never know, only time will tell. I really miss my 5-speed's, this is the first auto i have driven daily since my first car in 98 (auto 5.0)

Well I sold both of my cars a couple months ago when I moved from Chicago to Los Angeles. I was looking for something cheap and reliable, and I stumbled on the grand am for only $4200 so I couldn't resist.

Cheap, Fast, Reliable....sucks that you can only have two.

I'll sell ya four 440cc injectors for $30, you'll be on your own for the other two though. They are in IL too at my grandma's house in Westchester.

oh, and I gotta ask since you are in IL, have you seen either of these two cars lately? The black one lives in Palatine now, and the red one in Chicago. I miss them sooooo much:(

Probably be a better idea to simply put the 'advertisement' in our For Sale Section :wink4: (better than simply putting notification here, I mean)
