I was doing about 50 mph down a mainstreet when the car at an intersection turned right infront of me. If I hadn't paid attention I would have hit her head on going full speed. She thought she had a green light just because the guy infront of her turned. Well she didn't, and the guy in front of her just had time to turn. I hate when people try to drive while on the cell phone when they aren't even smart enough to drive without any other distractions.
:(
Little diagram just incase I didn't explain myself:

That sucks.....well, look at the bright side....if the frame is ok, you can use the money you get from the accident and get a kit!

She had full coverage, I have plpd. So I'm screwed. The frame is fine, I just have some body work to take care of this weekend. I'm gonna fix this one up enough so that it looks alright and runs good and sell it off this summer and get a new '02 or '03 Grand Am I'm hoping.

Not in Michigan it wont.
It's a no fault state, yay.
But obviously I am glad I am not hurt and am also glad she was okay but still, you're first reaction to someone destroying you're property is going to be vast amounts of anger.

Damn that sucks. Gotta love morons that can't pay attention while behind the wheel.
The day after my wedding my friend was returning his tux when two old people turned right in front of him just like what happened to one.
Out come. They totaled his '89 IROCZ that had only about 30,000 original miles on it. Even after they tried sueing him when they found out he owns his own bussiness and ending up getting a few grand from the insurance company. F'ing scumbag bastards. Here's what happened to his car. http://members.fbody.com/iroc89/my.htm For the past two years he's had a convertable at the shop being restored to replace his old one.
I hope you get your car repaired better than new. If insurance won't cover it sue the bastards for smashing up your pride n joy.

45 I was only doing between 3-5 over. She started turning as I entered the intersection though she didnt even see my headlights she wasnt paying any attention at all. It wouldn't have mattered if I was going 30 miles an hour I would have still hit her.
Yeah I wasn't about to even get close to hitting her though. I hope by making her realize how stupid she was by being a complete ass she will learn to drive more carefully.
Yeah I'm going to get it repaired to better then it was before my neighbor does a lot of body work to cars and I called my dad and told him about it and he said he would help me out with the cost + since I've been wanting to do a lot of work to my car I guess I could look at this like motivation.

Kansas has the no fault law also. I live about 25 minutes out of kansas in MO and if I drive in kansas it applies to me as well.
Whats really sad about the law is liability coverage becomes pointless because The insurance company pays nothing. You are forced to pay full coverage basicly. But some how insurance company's convinced the state that they need it. Shows once again how screwed up the country is.

yeah, that makes no sence. Isn't the purpose of insurance so that if you do something wrong they will pay for the damage? Is it required to have coverage? Could you possibly sue her??

You probably need liability in case you go to another state that doesn't have no fault insurance. If you got into a wreck in Indiana for example, you would need to have insurance. BTW your rates for liability are probably lower since the majority of your driving is just in Michigan.

And I thought Oklahoma had jacked up laws.

Actually liability coverage has nothing to do with damages to the vehicles involved in the accident. Liability covers personal injuries and damage to infrastructure (like if you were to take down a telephone pole).

You also live in Michigan, and like me, that means you are subject to the notorious "No Fault Insurence".
Some jerk rear ended me in my old Intrepid two days after I got it back from the shop (for the first idiot that hit my front end), and he rear ends me at a stop light, telling me "I mistook the accelerator for the brake!"
Needless to say, I had to pay to fix my own car with my insurence, because unless the car is in Park, the driver, even at fault, is not liable.

I would shift to Park at every red light.
Subtle_Cynicism
10-01-2004, 06:30 AM
Believe it or not, I do...
Some of the redlights here are WAY long here, but if I get rear-ended or hit at a stop light, no cop is going to believe I was in park at a red light...

Ask a witness or the other driver if they saw your brake lights. If they say no then you would have to have the car in Park or it would be rolling forward.

Isn't there a law against talking on a cell phone while driving in Michigan? I know that there is a law against talking on a cell phone while driving in Wyoming. You should get a law passed if there isn't one.
Sorry to hear about your GA.
I would be so sad if it was my new GA.

Actually, in certain parts of MI there is a such law, In Troy they have that law, although it is rarely enforced... a real shame considering how much money, time & people could saved from injuries by people who are distracted instead of paying attention to the road like they should be...

Update:
Car = at the collision shop and am getting it back after the weekend. I'm not to mad I didn't get it before the weekend cause I get to take my dads explorer up to michigan state to see my sister. There was a hefty price tag on the repairs and parts tho, $1900.
