I recently had an idea to boost my air intake by removing my OEM intake and installing a high performance air filter ( the cone looking one) directly to my throttle body. I did some measurments, and it looks like the APC Intimidator series filter has the right diameter mount to strap onto the intake nad stubby enough to have clearence even with the OEM intake still installed. Im going to give this a try this next week, but If y'all have given this a try or have had bad experiences, let me know. Besides that, I notice that the CAI that Mantapart supplies is also a hit in the wallet, and this filter is only around $25. Im also planning to make sure the filter don't fall off while im driving by getting some other extra support for the weight.

No thats a bad idea. You would be draying in a LOT of hot engine air. If i were you i would buy some type of cheap intake of ebay and then make it come from the TB and go around you battery into the fender or make it go to a 90 degree bend off the tb straight down (but you might have problems ingesting water, and then might hydrolock the motor)

But i dont know for sure how you can make a custom intake, but i do know sticking a cone filter on the end of you TB is a bad idea. i would go to the link in my sig. theres alot more people with old quads that can help out im sure.

Here is a picture of my friend Kevin's CAI (on a '91 Calais International, which had an automatic Q4 LO at the time - now has an HO & five speed). A PVC pipe can help you out in a situation like this, and it's cheap! :)

Did your guy Kevin feel any extra performance with his car?A n intake like that, if it works, would help. Any problems with water into the filter?

Please dont install the filter on the end of the TB. You are just asking for trouble by doing this. You will be drawing in all kinds of hot air plus one of the main finctions of the intake tube is to speed up the air flow into the TB.

Buy Mandrel U-bends + cone filter, measure, cut, trim, enjoy.
