Wow, its been a while since I posted

My sister just got a new GA and she wanted me to put in some speakers / headunit.. I did this on my old one but I'm having trouble remembering what all I need..

She got a JVC headunit and some Pioneer speakers.. Here's my questions:
1. What wiring harness will I need?
2. I opened the doors and for some reason she doesn't have the 4x6 adapters (the car currently has no front speakers) .. Do I need to get those in order to install 4x6's or do I need the mount? Where can I purchase it?
3. Will there be anything else I need (I have the headunit faceplate adapter to make it fit) . + speaker wire and whatnot ..
4. Where is the best place to buy this stuff? Will they sell it at bestbuy (we dont' have many car audio shops around here)

Thanks for your help guys, sorry for the noob questions :)

Get a wiring harness from www.crutchfield.com or your local audio shop (they may or may not carry them)

This harness is a solder-together 'kit' that allows you to make a harness that clips into the factory radio harness plugs and the new head unit (read: no wire hacking). The adapters come already color coded to the wiring for your head unit:
Yellow: Constant 12V
Red: Ign Switched 12V
Black: Gorund
Blue: remote wire
Blue w/ white tracer: second remote wire/power antenna wire (not on all decks)
Orange: Dash illumination (not on all decks)

white & white w/ black tracer, grey & grey w/ black tracer: rear speakers (I forget which is right and left)
green & green w/ black tracer, purple and purple w/ black tracer: front speakers (again, I do not remember which is right and left)

For the white, grey, green, and purple speaker wires, the solid color wire is the +, the wire with a tracer is the -.

No idea on the speaker installations :(

1.) http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12621

This might be some help to you as far as propper dash kit and harnesses go.

2.) It sounds like somone was already in those doors, but if your looking to replace the fronts with 4x6's, your probably going to need those factory plates -OR- if you want, Metra also has 4x6 too 5 1/4" adaptor plates that would work for your situation as well. (part No.'s can be obtained from the link I posted above). they replacethe factory 4x6 plates that you seem to be missing and run about $15-$20 for the set. Not sure what you'd get the factory 4x6 plates for.....

3.) The link I left will give you all the part Numbers you'll need in order to do a headunit. As far as headunit parts, you need a dash kit, wire harness, and antenna adaptor.

4.) Circuit City and Best buy (and other shops like that) will have the parts you need. As will 99.9% of any small mom & pop car audio shops. on a side note Circuit City has what they call "Smartharnesses" Just plug em together and thats it. No soldering, splicing, or taping. and alot less margin to make a wiring mistake.

good luck to you on the install! :D

Ok, well I called the person who owned the car (bought it from a friend :D ) .. and he said he had 6.5s in the doors and took 'em out when he sold us the car for his . He doesn't have the old adapters lying around but felt bad and would pay for him hehe..

So far I haven't been able to find the factory part on GM direct and I can't really find anything for 4x6 adapters except for:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xccmhdNpWtY/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=11&g=103200&I=120821010&o=p&a=0&cc=01&avf=N&search=4x6

its an adapter for a different car but i guess i could drill it into the stock location and then use it as the brackets.. wish i could find those stock adapters somewhere ! any suggestions thx !

junkyard for stock adapters.

goto walmart for all the kits. Its 50% cheaper than anywhere else and its NOT hard to soder them together. Its all scouche (sp?) wiring stuff. They have the headunit adapters there, as well as the adapter for the FM connector.
