View Full Version : Rear end help!
I can't believe this!
I've had this car less than a week and I get rear - ended.
It wasn't too bad, but I would like the experts advice. I'll attach some pics so you can see the damage.
Do I get the whole rear bumper replaced? Would that be the best way here?
It's pushed the black trim out at the corners...
and in the middle where the impact happened.......
The impact site... The irony is sooo bad. I just sold a green ford taurus, and I just got HIT by one!!!!!!
I'm going to have it appraised tomorrow, so I would love you guys' opinions.

Was it your old car that hit you? HAHA J/K If it is the other persons fault I would take it to a body shop and get an estimate and then get a check from their insurance company. Glad to hear that you are ok.
Take it to the Dealers body shop so you get genuine GM parts, if someone else is paying.
BTW what's with the shoes, are you a Cop? :D

I highly doubt it. That thing just seems to have minor damage that can be fixed with some sandpaper, paint and a little lovin. I dont see anything that looks cracked or so out of place that they cant just fix it.
If you're looking at the car from the back, look at the license plate... on the left of the license plate recess, there is an area which is bulging out towards the plate... how can that be sanded down? If you do that, you'll be thinning out the material.
A dealer will probably replace it cost about 350.00 dollars.
Shop time to fix @ approx. 65-75 dollars per hour

Just be happy you don't have a fiberglass bumper,it would have been cracked and might as well buy a new bumper, yours is urathane and can be fixed much easier then if it were fiberglass, some sanding,re-fitting,paint.
I appreciate all the advice guys!
The Grand Am is gonna be in the body shop Monday for a couple of days. Can anyone give me a clue as to what I should be looking for when I go to pick it up? Workmanship quality, etc??

yea, make sure the paint they do is good! Ive had both my bumpers painted and I didnt know this till AFTER I bought the car. Just watch the paint, if it ever starts flaking oiff or anything, take it back IMMEDIATELY. A flaking bumper is the most annoying thing ever.

basically the same thing happened to me. I bought my 04 GT in the summer and got rear ended a month ago. Estimate was 900 dollars. My damage is way less than yours. Right side of license plate was bent in a little and a couple of chips. They said the best way to fix would be to replace bumper(400) plus labor and paint....etc.

u dont necasserally have to have dealership parts but if other guy is paying try to get them because the only thing that is wrong some times with other parts is fit sometimes aint perfect but is easy to fix done many ga's at work my self. at a dealership in ottawa canada and its only like a 45 door rate so shop around at dealerships if u are goinging to dealership.
