Need help hooking up subs/amp

I got some free (2) 10" Dual subs with box and a 460W Dual amp. I also have an aftermarket Sony head unit with RCA outputs. Now here is my prob. I hooked everything up, but i get the red LED status light on the amp witch means there is a "fault" somewhere, I just dont know where that fault would be cause I have everything hooked up to what i think is right. I have the REM cable that runs from the amp to the turn-on lead on the head unit. Then the 12V source from the battery to the amp(for now the end on the battery is only touching one side cause the hole for the batter bolt to go through doesn't fit) Then the ground wire from the amp to a bear metal surface. Then I have the stereo wire from the subs to the amp like so: Purple(copper wire) is on the red sub input and the White(silver) wire is connected to the black sub input. The purple(copper wire) then leads to the positive output on the amp and the white wire goes to the negitive output. Same setup goes for the other sub too. I have disconnected the stock rear 6X9 speakers where the adapter is on the block of wires to the head unit.

Not sure what my prob is, but my subs aren't working....just my front speakers...anyways, if you have any ideas that would be great!!

I get confused right here....

Where do the purple and white wires originate? The HU? Or are these just the speaker wires for the subs? If so, why do you have them going to the amp INputs?

Are you using RCA cables from the HU to the amp or the HLI's (high level inputs)?

I got everything figured out and it works...i had the stereo wires wired backwards so that was why it didn't work....its all fixed now :D
