Had this happen on my 96 2.4 today and wondering if this is a common problem. The SES light was staying on and it was code no. P1406. At $236 list price, I figured I would try to clean it first.
I pulled it out and the plunger was stuck. I popped it free with a small punch and just scrubbed it out with a small wire hole-brush a little. Seemed to operate OK, so I put it back in and the light didn't come back on again. :D
Of course time will tell if it will return. There is 116K on the car, and don't believe it was replaced before. The carbon deposits in there weren't too bad, not like my 94 Blazer. That EGR looked like a miniture coal mine inside! :eek:
I gotta say, that is a sweet runnin' little 4. I love the way that thing pulls at high RPM's! I wouldn't mind tinkering with the performance mods once I finish my Firebird restoration! ;)
