the paint on my spoiler is fading like a mother F!@#er, I want to repaint it myself because i dont want to pay a rediculous amount for a spoiler to be painted. it is getting siloets of raindrops on it from being sunbleeched. it is the only thing that need a paint job right now. What do i need to do to prep it, and what paint should i use, is there a spray paint, or do i need to buy a whole bunch of shit?

Do NOT spray paint it,meaning paint out of a spray can,it will not match,no matter what you do.....Preping it would be sanding off the clear coat, you'll know when you do so,it will look dull and rough.I just bought a spray gun and primered my side skirt(check this section for my post) If you really want to learn how to paint and don't just want the spoiler painted then buy a spray gun, primer, paint, and all the goodies. If you don't and just want to do a quick job, save the money for someone to do it,if you prep it yourself it will save you money. The first time I got my kit painted I did ALL the body work on it then had someone paint it,it saved me 300 bucks in labor.

well just as a note about spray can... well actually where my dad works at a local auto parts store.. you can give him your color code.. if its a factory color or you know the specific color.. and he can mix up the paint.. and use that paint into a spray can so its a 100% mix... it isnt cheap.. but as vanishingimage says.. dont use a spray can.. at least for how i described.. that is only for a touchup and not an entire spoiler.. so using a proper spray gun gives a much better job

... you don't have to take the whole clear coat off guys. Just sand it untill it's dull & make sure you finish it off w/ atleast 500 grit paper, 600 or a bit higher would be the best, especially with lighter colors. The purpous of sanding is to give a good abraded surface for the new paint to bite into.
