We want to install a ram air hood on our GT. I have seen several cars with different types. Where do you guys get the hoods? I found the standard SCT hood, but some of these others look better. Any help??

You can find the SD, as well as the SC/T hood on www.pfyc.com & any like mine are usually hand made. They made a few full ready to go hoods but halted production after only a few.

Can't decide which looks better - the SCT or the SD. Is the SD better cause it takes the heat away from the engine - out the rear of the hood??

I like the SC/T one better..

None of the hoods are functional unkess you modify them to take in or extract air.

Why does it say at www.pfyc.com that they are? They have this question posted. That means they have to be modified? I thought it was just for the heat extraction on the SCT hood that they had to be modified?

Q: Is this a functional ram air hood?
A: Yes, the hood is functional and the ducts do duct air to the engine bay.

As far as I know they will scoop air into the engine bay but that's it. They aren't functional meaning there's no connection to the engine intake. Although they've said numerous time that there will be an "airbox kit" available soon for the SC/T.

Is that the SCT hood that you have on your car, JoeyK?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7926771374&category=33646&sspagename=WDVW the only way to get that hood is to buy that scoop and mold it yourself

Here's a better pic. of it. If you like it I can get ahold of the guy who makes them to see if he's going to restart production on the full/ ready to go hood. Just let me know & I'll see what's going on with them. Otherwise to mold one on is some work that's not really for a novice. Also, his full hoods when he did make them are a bit different than mine I stretched my nostrils down to the edge of the hood & the reg. full hood had them stopping about 3" shy of the edge if I remember correctly.

If you could contact him, that would be great. What price are they? Your hood looks the best out of all of them!!

Thanks! Kinda makes it look like a WS.6 junior which is ok w/me because I've always loved the WS.6 Trans Am hoods.
I can't quite remember the priceing. Seems like it was somewhere around$650 to 750? - Don't quote me on that though. I'll get ahold of him & ask him about the price also. He's out of Pennsylvania. The nice though is they'll probably have thier own factory style mesh insets to go in the nostrils- I had to make mine.

I had the SD hood for a while.. until my little accident w/ a tree. :( you can see pics under "bye grand am" (yellow).

The SD hood has 2 openning in the front and two in the rear.

the two in the front are open and direct the air to the to of the air box. But you have to modify the airbox to let the air from above in.. a warm air intake is always good but you have to worry about water a bit.

the rear ones, only the passanger side can be openend. and yes, it will release the hot air but not that much. Its not a huge opening but it does let the hot air out.. the only draw back is that water falls on the belt and alternator.

I recently got a new OEM SC/T hood thru bodyshop. I also considered SD hood, but I didn't wanna deal with water and dirt going into extractors. I think SCT looks better because it has bigger front vents.
Keep in mind that SC/T style hood that PFYC sells is not same as OEM one.

AznGA - do you have any pics of your hood?
What's the difference between the one at PFYC and the OEM one?
I don't really like the SCT one because you cannot even tell that it is a Ram Air hood from the side. I like the ones that are raised up a bit so you can see a difference from the side. I like the look in the front though.
Can I ask you how much it was for you to have it painted?

PM me with your e-mail address and I will send you big pictures. SCT is definitly raised up a bit compared to a stock one. I haven't seen PFYC one in person, but mine has a center line that kinda bulges up, and the PFYC one looks pretty flat.
The hood was $900 and about another $300 for paint, install.

Is there a reasonably cheap (used or new) large-scoop hood that will pop right on my '96 GAGT? I'll be glad to pay shipping or come get it (within 250 mi of Indianapolis) and woujld like to fimd a CVF hood if there is one available. Functional, please. TNX GaGt.

JoeyK - yeah I got ahold of them. They e-mailed me back right away. He said that he was working on the fitment problems and that he had hoped to have it on e-bay in a couple of weeks. I haven't checked e-bay, but I think they should be on there by now. He let me see some pics too. I like the way that yours looks with the nostrils extended, better.
We spent our money on the Borla exhaust. So, now have to wait until we save some up again for the hood. :(

Well, the beauty part about the full hood is it'd be a piece of cake to get out the mat & resin & extend those nostrils to the front being the hood is fiberglass.:) I'll be getting the Borla exhaust in the spring more than likely, either that or the SLP along w/ S&S headers.:) How do you like the Borla so far? Does it have more of an agressive growl/ tone to it? Notice anymore punch to the car with it?

MetalMech

We like the sound - real low growl when the RPMS die down. I wouldn't say I notice more punch. I have noticed that the rpms are not so high at certain speeds. Like when I cruise to work all the time at 70mph, it used to be up at 2200 rpm, now it's just over 2000. So, I think that helps a little with the gas mileage. I commute ALOT! I do like the sound though.

I've messed with mat and resin in school - aviation, wood and fabric class and lets just say - I HATE that stuff - what a mess. Easy for you maybe, but you should have seen my little wing - all air bubbles. I would botch it up real good!! lol
