I was wondering what the average MPG is on the 2.4L. I suspect my car isn't performing correctly. I'm getting approx. 400km per tank, that's mainly city driving, but I don't speed or speed off the line at each light. I have heard there was a problem with a fuel sensor on certain models, but I am unsure of this. I've found that while stopped the car does jump forward a bit, like it wants to go. I'm not sure if I need to provide any more info. I gladly will if needed.

You're probably right to be concerned. I have a 3100 SFI V6 in my car, and get 400+ kms. to a tank around town, and I do speed around a lot and and leave lights somewhat rapidly.

Start with something simple - the air filter. If it's clogged, it can reduce fuel economy, because the engine will have to work harder to suck air through it.

Also, how many miles are on your car? Have the oxygen sensors been replaced in the recent past? A fouled or failing O2 sensor will also cause increased fuel consumption.

Well, if you are gauging a tank on when the refuel light comes on, then I am getting about the same, even with the crap gas mileage stealing gasoline we have in Wisconsin. In the winter, with city and rush hour driving, I average about 24 mpg or about 38.5 kmpg (us gal.) 46km per UK gal.
Then again, I've long suspected something could be wrong with mine, however, my car buddies tell me I'm on crack...

kinda the same subject...I just want to vent...
$1.80/gal for regular! Lick my butt OPEC! I know, could be worse...

I also drive like a grandpa most of the time, if you move from a jacked up truck to a car, you'd understand.

Well, my car has 70 000kms, I don't know about O2 sensors being replaced, but I just recently put in a new K&N air filter. What does the cost usually run for an O2 sensor?

i get about 21 MPG city, and like, 25 highway, and i definitly feel this is not up to par. I have a brand new K&N high flow filter, so i know it's not the filter. i dont even know what to do.

I'm pretty sure my 97 GT has the 2400 I-4. I'll have to check in the morning. 90000 miles. On a road trip this spring I was getting 40mpg highway. Very pleased with that. Usually seem to average in the mid-20s with mostly city driving.

i forgot to mention, the original window sticker from my car says 23mpg city and 33mpg highway. I think the auto is like 1mpg less or so in the city and the same or 1 lower on the highway.

^yep
The 99+ 2.4 is 21city and 29hyw. And the 3400 gets 32hyw. Talk about irony.
