i know your asking "Why all rockford stuff?'', well it just happened that way, i went out shopping based on performance, sq, and price and this is what i got

i'm currently working on my wifes SQ system: right now i have Boston Pro 4.5X components, Boston RX69 6x9's, Alpine CDA-7894, Alpine MRV-450 5-channel amp on the way, and i haven't decided on the sub but i'm thinking either alpine type-s, rockford HE1, or Image Dynamics ID10 v.3

Right now I just have a sony headunit. :banghead:

I have more lying around such as my infinity subs my sony amp and I used to have some sony 6x9's but I ain't changing the stock speakers im just gonna add the subs.

and this is what was in my old Silver GAGT. I sure wish I still had the JVC headunit.

I have always liked the new rockford fosgates, I heard the component sets at best buy and my mouth dropped I plan on getting them someday. lol

tommymcc

why not upgrade the stock speakers? it makes a big difference, or at least to me, i went from stock to coax, then i went to components, each change made a big difference, it also depends on if you amp them and your genre of music too

also, the subs look good, how is that amp holding up? i saw many of those amps fry

I have the stock head unit
15+ year old MTX speaker that has a mid and tweeter built in to it. I have two but the second one needs a new sub. The one in my car also needs a new sub. But alone as super glue works it's staying in my car
15+ year old Cousic AMP 380 225watts of 2-channel power. No bells and whistles. Just input, output and gain. This amp sounds better than my friends new 400watt MTX amp. I'm never giving it up. :D

i'm very impressed, they only cost around $200 and they sound great, i always expect the new punch stuff to be low end but these things are great, but thats because they're really mb quarts, they're made at the factory with mb quarts, they use the same materials and build them to the same specs. the only difference is the cosmetics

There is just to much trouble switching out the stock speakers. I had my old 93 and the interior rattled big time because it had been taken apart alot so I am trying to avoid all that.

I may eventually get new speakers and all but not at this point and time.

The amp is sort of broken at this point I only need one of the rca wire hooked up to the amp to get 2 speakers working not sure why but I love my infinity subs and couldn't have chosen much better. I chose them because they had a low rich response to them.

tommymcc
10-11-2004, 09:19 PM
if you don't wanna remove the stock speakers you can just disconnect them and add some kickpanels, you'll get better imaging from them

but i do understand how you feel about changing the speakers, i cut up the door panels of my ga and tacoma alot, but it's worth it

Old Rockford Punch 100

Amazing thing is I had an old California 600 watt 3 channel amp hooked up to it and it FINALLY died on me and I had to throw on the punch 100 and it hit harder with the punch.. And boy does it hit. I have had 5 different setups and this just amazes me. Plan on another mtx 8500 and a Hifonics Brutus BX1500d and Hifonics for the mids and tweets. Ill post pics if I remember to.

thanks for the re-welcome. its got two channel input and two channel output. (thats my only issue with it...its only working for my fronts). it does however boost the signal to 8 volts.

tommymcc
10-28-2004, 07:05 AM
oh, i'm looking for a DSP/EQ that excepts 6 inputs and puts out 7, front/rear/subs/center the only thing i found that is close to what i want is a alpine 5 channel amp that has a built in DSP and EQ that puts out 75wx5

car audio dave
10-28-2004, 08:27 AM
i dont think youll find exactly what youre looking for available in a car application. you can, however, get alpines center channel amp/speaker kit to go along with what youve already found.

10-31-2004, 12:12 PM
i'm gonna mold a boston pro 4.5x component set in the dash, but only one half of it, the other part is gonna serve the same purpose in my wifes car

tommymcc
11-04-2004, 10:08 PM
a new update, i switch my component system out, i put in a rf power T162S set it, they sound really good, they sound very much like the boston pro's in my wifes car, (prepares for a big flame for dave now)

car audio dave
11-05-2004, 09:42 AM
haha...i wont flame it..i know that RF has changed their entire line. i havnt had adequate test time with it since i left that job right when they picked RF up (coincidence).

if you like how it sounds then i cant tell you that youre wrong. i personally am not a real big fan of boston pros, so who knows...i might even like the RFs better if i heard em.

car audio dave
11-05-2004, 09:43 AM
oh, but congrats anyway on picking up the new speakers. lemme know as time goes on what you think of em.

tommymcc
11-05-2004, 11:23 AM
i currently biamping them, and switching my HU from front/rear/sub to high/mid/low setting

car audio dave
11-05-2004, 11:26 AM
thats a cool idea. are those components bi-ampable? if so then thats surprising from RF, but then again, they did redo everything.

tommymcc
11-05-2004, 11:40 AM
yup, the power and type rf stuff is bi-amp, all they use is the mb quart precision and Q x-overs with their own midrange and tweeters, they use 1.1" titanium inverted dome tweeters and aluminums cone 6.3/4" midrange, they also rms at 100w per speaker, i'm giving them about 80w rms

car audio dave
11-05-2004, 01:20 PM
thats pretty cool...i guess its to be expected for them to used MB Quart parts.

tommymcc
11-05-2004, 06:38 PM
yup, kinda crappy too, they made good stuff for years then they got bad, so they buy out mb quart, lightning audio, and q logic so they can make better boxes, wiring hardware, and high/mid speakers

at least they allow those companies to continue doing their own business though, all rockford does is use the other companies workers, parts, and facilities

Bought strictly because i liked the sound it gave, and it hasnt been picky with any burnt cd's i have thrown its way.

This controls

Not sure on the model, Sony 10 disc MP3 changer , havent had it skip yet, and with 7 gigs of mp3's in the car, its hard to get tired of the music.

http://members.shaw.ca/jibo/caraudio/ga_hu.jpg

Also in the above picture you can see my 10 inch mtx road thunder series sub, powered by the kenwood amp you can partially see on the left, again no idea on the model number, pushes 350 watts when bridged (the sub cant take that  ) , hey it was cheap, but it adds all the bass i want, I have a set of pioneer 6x9's in the rear deck and the factory 4x6's and tweeters up front, it is definitely a budget system, but it sounds good enough to me, and I could not be happier with it.

tommymcc
11-09-2004, 10:43 PM

i'm adding a rf punch x line driver/x-over this weekend, it's gonna boost my pre-out voltage up to 10V, i hope i don't fry my amps

car audio dave
11-14-2004, 10:13 PM
is it adjustable? i know that on my EQ, the line driver is adjustable.

tommymcc
11-14-2004, 10:15 PM
nope, it is a 3 way high/high/low pass x-over and 10V line driver, i'm sure there is a way to withhold some power from it so it doesn't produce the full 10V

car audio dave
11-15-2004, 10:27 AM
i dotn know of any amps thatll take a full 10v signal input, but honestly, thats a variable number anyways. i mean, does that boost from 4v to 10v, or will it boost 1.8v to 10v. if youve got a 4v out headunit, then you only get close to 4v when your volume is all the way up, and if thats when it hits 10v, then youll be ok, just set your amps accordingly. you can probably leave the amp gains all the way down with that line driver, thats how mine works.

tommymcc
11-15-2004, 11:16 AM
thats what i was planning on doing, i'm leaving the subs at 4V from the HU, i'm using the driver for the high and mids, the 1st input/output will be for the highs, the 2nd and 3rd will act as a bandpass filter for my mids

I have it wired up as 200rms x 2 (4 ohm)

eD is a SQ setup, at least mine is, im sure if it was ported and setup a little different it would get that louder spl sound going, especially if you tried a OV series. I am quite happy with this setup though, I was messing around last night and at one point in the beginning of a song it felt like a earthquake in the drivers seat, thats only if your really pushing it though. Most of the time it doesnt come off as a bass monster (of course I run the gain at half (still havent had a chance to get it set properly) and my HU is setup for primarily vocals), but to me, I really like it so far, at first I was unsure, but after a few days of listening, im happy. Eventually Ill get everything done, but the day after I finished getting it all in 4" of snow showed up, gotta love it.
