Ok i just bought 2 s10 one with a 2.8 auto and one with a 2.5 5 speed. The 2.5 is blown so I want to put the 2.8 in the truck with the 2.5. My question is will the tranys bolt up and if not if i swap the motor and trany is there anything else that i need to swap beside the harness

I think you also need the 2.8's Engine Control Module (ECM), and prolly fuel tank, fuel pump, and exhaust/cat.
You *prolly* need the 2.8's radiator for greater cooling power.
Prolly also need a different driveshaft, since the engine/tranny length will likely be different.

I assume: Both S-10's are 2wd; and, you want a 5-spd if possible.

I *think* the bellhousing bolt pattern on the 2.5 matches that of the 60* V6's, including your 2.8.

You would *prolly* need a complete clutch assembly for the 2.8; this would include a flywheel in place of the 2.8's torqueconverter/flexplate.

I understand that the 'old' 2.8's had their crankshafts 'externally balanced'.
That is, GM added balancing weights (just a few ounces of steel) to the flexplate (autos) or flywheels (manuals) to counter the machining imbalances, rather than 'internally-balancing' the crank by removing a few ounces from the crank throws.
The problem: I *think* your 2.8's crank will need to be 'rebalanced' once a new flywheel is attached. A good machine shop can do this for you.

The 2.8 *may* take a different fuel pump than the 2.5 has, and there may be wiring problems.
Or, just swap tanks at the same time as engines.
And swap exhausts, so you get the proper cat.

I have a carb'd 2.8 with Chrysler auto in my '85 Cherokee. The auto tranny has a manual kickdown from the carb.

I don't know how your FI 2.8 'signals' kickdown to your auto tranny (prolly a TH700R4), but it shouldn't be that hard to de-activate without screwing-up the ECM. I'm pretty sure your auto has no electronics controlled by the ECM, tho I'm sure there's a Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) that needs to be abandoned (or adapted to the 5-spd).

You will need new motor mounts, and possibly a different frame member.
Contact Advance Adapters at their website, they are the EXPERTS at all things having to do with engine swaps.

Good luck.

PS: There are several S-series websites that know more about this than we fwd GA'ers ever will.

Since you have both trucks you have most of the parts except the V6 flywheel / clutch .
