this morning i got up to go to school and went out side to move mom's 99 Lumina(it was blocking my car in) and i start it and put it in reverse and just let it roll out of the driveway. then put it in drive and gave it some gas and it moved slow as hell. the tranny is in gear but is slipping like no other. does it no matter what gear you are in. the car drove fine 3 hours before when i used it to go to work. sat for 3 hours and now it is doing this. i didnt have time to really check it out. im HOPING that it is just low on tranny fluid but i think it might be something else. what else could it be? im thinking if it isnt low ill try changing the fluid and filter to see if that does it. if not then what? giv eme some opinions here.

The GA auto tranny goes all-to-hell if the battery is low or the terminals are dirty, since it NEEDS strong electrical power to actuate the first gear solenoid.
Check the battery and terminals; if the lights had been left on after the earlier trip, the battery could have been drawn-down to the point that it would start the engine but had no reserve for vehicle operations including tranny.
Good luck.

electrical system is fine. had them let it sit and run for 10 minutes in gear. drove fine after that. so they are wanting to get the fluid flushed. i told them to just get it changed.

Check if the fluid is low and all that and look at the color of it make sure its not black or brown and dosent have any metal floating in it or gold in color. If its slipping really bad you could have a stuck valve, clutch plates could not be holding, band could not be holding etc.

i didnt have time to mess with it. had to get to school. dad says he checked it and it was at where its suppose to be. me thinks filter pluged and needs to be changed and warming it up made fluid thinner and made it pass easier.

How long has it been since its been changed? And if warming it up helps then drain the fluid and look at the pan for metal chunks etc. Filter is easy to change to just pull on one side with your hand and use a screwdriver on the other side to pry it out of the ring. The ring should still be good if you want to take it out you can but its a pain in the ass to get out.
But like i said DO NOT get the tranny flushed the only time they should do that is if you blow up a part so the metal chunks are out of the lines. Doing it before hand is not good from what i hear from people.

i dont have the slightest clue as to when it was changed last if it has been. car only has 42k miles on it. it is going monday to get the filter and fluid changed and not flushed. id do it myself by i get off school at 330 then have to be to work by 5 so i really dont have any time to piss with it.

Well 42k miles on fluid it shouldnt need to really be changed but you can do it and check to see how the pan looks and loock for chunks of metal etc and look at the color of the fluid. But to me it sounds like you have a sticking valve more than any thing and a clutch/band isnt holding or grabbing.
