My 92' Grand Am SOHC 2.3, 5 speed, is haveing a studdering/surging problem when i'm trying to accelerate from low RPM's. After the RPM's get into the mid to high range, it runs just fine and dandy. The car has been doing this ever since i got it from my aunt, who kept fairly good care of it, but she never drove it rough. It has fairly new spark-plugs, new fuel filter, and it feels like it has all of it's power still and gets the good gas milage. I'm left thinking it's a timing issue or fuel pump issue, cause the one thing my aunt did was she forgot to change the fuel filter for 10 years X(. And the check engine light is not on. Any suggestions?

willing to bet your fuel pump is ok because generally if they go its either they work or dont work basically. but to be sure best to get a fuel pressure tester and see if your within spec..

But as for power... well ive never owned a 2.3 but i hear alot of people talking about timing.. and from what i hear its a common thing and its something you dont wanna ignore.. but how did your aunt have the car.. just a week or like a year.?
