:???: Can you tell me the exact location of the O2 sensor on the manifold on a 97 3.1? The only thing I have attached to the manifold is the flex tube for the EGR. Perhaps on the underside?
Thanks

It's there where you were looking.
The EGR tube comes from the exhaust runner (manifold) of the #5 cylinder (rear bank, far left/driver side).
The O2 sensor is on the middle (#3) exhaust runner. It's cleverly hidden by the coil pack and plug wires, but it's there, atop the manifold and about 4-6" from the head IIRC.
To see it, you practically need to lay on the engine with your head against the hood underside, and shine a flashlight into the darkness as you shift plug wires aside.
No need to remove the coil pack, tho it would be easier to access the sensor if the coil pack were removed for some other reason.
Best to do this with a cold engine
Good luck.

if it helps you can just use a long extenstion i used a 12 inch.. with a O2 sensor socket.. and the extension is just above the engine to get the socket wrench on.. and then you dont have to worry about ripping your hand open trying to get it
