Ok, so i'm searching around the internet and couldn't really find a conclusive answer to my question here... So here goes...

I have a '99 SE2 3.4L. I want to take the Ram Air Induction off of a 99-03 GT and put it on mine. How difficult would that be? I've heard some say you need a new hood, others say no... To me, it looks like my hood should be fine, but then I'm no expert. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

... I had it on my car for a long time ... in fact, just removed it in the summer to try a CAI ... I prefer the look of the RAM-AIR though although the CAI seems to work better :) ... by the way, you can also get the instructions here at ...

if I were you I'd just not put the ram air on, for the price of the Ram Air system you could have a Dr. Speed CAI, or you could make your own WAI too for the price of a piece of pipe and a K&N filter

@99gransamse: thanx for the extra directions. the specific part numbers may help as well.

@DowmaceWH99: i'm not planning one spending all that much for the ram air system... i've located several salvage yards that have them for between $60 and $75... i'm not going to put a K&N cone filter on... that'll just pull hot air from inside the engine compartment and completely negate what i'm trying to do... I am however, going to put a K&N drop-in replacement in... but maybe you could give me a link where i could take a look at the Dr. Speed CAI...

I apraciate the help guys...

I didn't use a peice of pipe. Just got a K&N P/N RC-3870 (http://www.knfilterchargers.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RC-3870) and clamped it on to MAF. Left the bottom half of the airbox there since the ramair tube I am assuming is still pushing a little bit of cool air from the outside near the cone filter, and fabbed a little bracket to support the stock rubber flex tube off the manifold. I noticed a huge difference over the stock ram air box and K&N rectangle. And it sounds mean as hell. I stayed in the engine compartment for the winter because I don't want to risk suckin up the slush. Maybe after the snow, I'll plumb it to the fender. And the cool thing about it is I didn't have to order the damn thing. Luckily Summit Racing's west coast Distro is only a half an hour away in Sparks, NV. Thing was only $34. And we pay $50 for a 33-2121?

I was looking at the Dr. Speed stuff... looks good, but i didn't see anywhere that they mentioned a bypass vaulve on the stage 3...
R8DERHED5150 is right... i'd be worried about sucking sh1t up the cold air... i'm pretty sure i can get a bypass vaulve from AEM that'll fit the Dr. Speed tho.... just have to check on the pipe diameters...

Kinda, but I dont think its all that big a deal. I'm just affraid of that slight chance if it happening. I'd rather be safe than sorry and wait till the dry season and then pipe it outside again. I mean damn, winter is cold enough around here that whatever its breathing is cool enough, Wtf do I need the extra horses for in the snow anyway right?

But my whole point is that just a K&N straigh onto the MAF makes a quite noticable difference over stock Ram Air. And this is at 5000 feet elev.

i get what you're saying... i just think it'll be easier if i put a bypass vaulve in and not have to worry about it....

slush doesn't worry me as much as big puddles do.... i've seen some horror stories of people that put CIA's in and no bypass and they hit a puddle in the rain and did quite a number on their engine... not a common thing... but it can happen...

just have to see how much money i can come up with... that'll really determine which one i end up going with....

its a national salvage yard search... it'll depend on your area, and you're best to call ahead and make sure they've got the entire thing before bothering to go get it... (if you're refering to my post about getting the ram air cheaper from above)

I'm honestly in a toss up between the ram air and the Dr. Speed Stage 2 at this point... it really boils down to when i'll have the money for either... i've got some other expenses at the moment, so i won't be doing either for a bit...

anyway, good luck with the search...

Edit: i realize this contradicts my previous post about not wanting a WAI, but i'm still not sure i'm really going to do anything... like i said, its a toss up at this point....

Al's sucks dude..... That place is way over priced, there's a U-Pull-It like 15 minutes north that's alot cheaper. Al's wanted $450 for leather seats for my '03.... 1 was ripped due to glass too.
