so im startin to get obsesses w/ led's and plexi... so i did this today, printed out PONTIAC on my computer, put some masking tape on the plexi, used an exacto and cut out the letters through the paper and the tape, peeled the tape back, sanded the open plexi, peeled the rest of it off so PONTIAC was all that was skuffed in the plexi, then put in a dado into a piece of wood so the plexi could sit in there then of course put some blue led's into the bottom of it to light the beotch up.. i think it looks sexy above my comp.. but i think im gonna incorporate a similular design into a custom lexan box/amp rack... not sure yet.. anyway, im happy w/ the results.. what do you think?

If you guys really want to, I can do more stuff like this if you guys want it, and if he doesnt want to waste the hours doing this. I have a machine at my work that does the exact same thing, so if you want, I can take orders (no money down) and do as many as you guys want. As far as the plexi is concerned, count me in, but that LED part looks like something magyver would have to do.

thanks guys, yeah, this took almost an hour... its realy rather simple, just takes a little time..

so you have an etcher? cause i would love a front end pict of my ride to be etched... that would be the sheot, along w/ the "driving excitment" logo that they used to have on the bottom.. that would be the bomb biggity...

You are the LED master LOL! You really should go the the "How To" section and post EVERYTHING you know. I'd love to LED the interior of my car.

Good job, Magyver. A bead blaster or sand blaster could take the place of sanding and maybe keep the edges of the letters sharp. I use our bead blaster to put a uniform finish on aluminum pieces I make.

I'm not doubting your LEDness, but I know that my 7000 and 8000mcd LEDs are hella brighter than your hella bright 1000's. But your LEDs are awesome BTW, no doubt - I have respect for your work, I've done a lot of the same to my car....

I have some 5k mcds in my 3rd brakelight.... don't seem all that bright to me...............

magyver
10-25-2004, 10:02 PM
mcd is a measure, just cause you buy 5K mcd dosent mean your getting all that, i know i have 12K white ones and they are not much brighter then the alleged 5K... dont let the mcd value fool you... and you cant realy judge unless there side by side, every camera is differnt, and what not.. plus, i sand all my led's to help w/ dissapation...

You also have to take an LED's viewing angle into account with brightness. A 10,000mcd LED at 15 degrees is actually outputting the same overall light as a 5,000mcd LED at 30 degrees.

But back on topic...awesome work. How thick is the plexi you used?
