I want to buy a sub for my car and I could use some help. I like MTX, but I would consider other brands like Alpine. I don't want to be the loudest on the block, I just want some decent bass. Also I want a smaller box because I would like to be able to use the trunk afterwards. This means I am probably going to go with a single 10" or 12" in either a bandpass or sealed enclosure.

I am looking at a this (http://www.mitekfactoryoutlet.com/products/product.cfm?PN=SLH-T7512-A) setup, anyone have any experiance with these? Are they worth it for the money? They come in a 2 and 4 ohm configuration and I plan on running just one of these so which one should I get?

They recommend this (http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/thunder342.cfm) amp to go with it, is this a good amp? Should I go to a bigger amp than they recommend?

What do you guys think?

that would work, alpine has a type r in a ported box like that too, rockford has some new enclosures too

Fosgates are usually space hungry even in sealed applications. If you still want space you're looking at a sealed box. I had/have a 12" Alpine R and it sounded great. Not overwhelming but it still bumped like two midgets wrestling in your trunk. I loved my setup and would highly recommend it to anyone. I had mtx and wasn't too impressed. Loud, yes. Durable, no. My amp wasn't digital and would overheat and shut off after about an hour. I went through 3 15" mtx 8000 before I decided to ditch MTX all together. But others will swear by MTX. I haven't used MTX in about 4 years so things may have changed.

the new rf stuff doesn't need thatmuch space, the T1's like i have only need 1.25^3ft ported, i'm giving them 2^3ft a piece

I thought about it and I don't think I will get a sealed box. I know they are smaller but I am willing to give up the space for a ported box. You dont need as big of an amp (so it's cheaper) in a ported box. Plus in general ported boxes are louder than sealed.

I don't have anything against RF, but I was checking out their site and it just didn't impress me much. I found Alpine's box and its pretty similar to the MTX, but a lot cheaper. If I can find the money though I would get the MTX 9500 12" dual voice coil in a second. That thing has got to pound. We're talking over a grand though for a single 12", box and amp. Not to mention the head unit and amp kit.

My last stereo got ripped off so I will probably get a alarm and I want to screw the box to the car with some tamper proof bolts so its at least a little harder to steal. The only problem with this is that the box will probably cover at least some part of the spare tire, so how do I mount the speakers and still have access to the spare tire?

Once I have 100+ pounds of speakers in the trunk wouldn't it be a good idea to get the car aligned? I'm talking about the camber of the rear wheels specifically. If it was a temporary load I wouldn't worry about it but since it will be in there all the time I'm thinking the insides of the rear tires will get worn more if I don't get them adjusted.

I have a 4 ohm MTX 8500 12 and it slams so hard with an old Rockford Punch 100. I have hard 2 12 inch 9500's with 200 watts going to each and it was ungodly loud with just 400 watts... I have been through several car stereo's and this single mtx 12 I have now is the best overall. I wont switch it out for a looooong time.. Maybe just add another :D
