I ordered an intake on ebay about a month ago to try to fix a problem I was having with my battery. Refer to my other post in this section for detailes. The intak came about a week ago and there was no place to plug my MAF sensor into. Not , I thought the MAF sensor was this little electric device thing that went inside the intake tube or a tube coming off of it that measured the air going into the engine. Well, I send an email back the the seller saying that I needed that part for my car to run properly. He tried arguing that my car didn't need it. I told him it did so he said he'd send one. Now....this is what he sent me:

Did he send me the wrong thing or am I wrong as to what a MAF sensor is? Now I still need that little part and I have no clue where to get it from or even what its called now. Thanks in advance...

Edit*** - We can't link to offsite pics anymore?

The 2.4L does not have a MAF sensor. The sensor you are talking about is probably the IAT sensor, which measures the temperature of the intake air.

What they sent you is just the casing of a MAF (Mass-Air Flow) sensor (tells the PCM how much air is going through the intake to adjust fuel delivery). The part they sent you has pretty much no value (it's not the actual sensor).

You should be able to re-use the IAT that's in your original airbox. You just need to disassemble from the airbox and put it in your new intake.

Just a question.
I see at eBay some guys selling just a resistor to install at the sensor socket. What it seems to do is just replace the variable sensor impedance to the engine computer, with a fixed resistor value, telling the computer the air still a fixed temperature.

They say it improves engine power... well, it doesn't make sense to me, but, any comments?
