I've been having a lot of problems with my car all of a sudden. It's a 2001 V6 Grand Am. My service engine soon light came on and I got the machine put in to read the problems. Here they are:

P0113 Intake air temp ckt signal hight
P1111 Iat ckt intermittent hight voltage
P1189 Eng oil pressure switch

The first one, "air temp signal", is the the mass air flow sensor? Because that's what I was told and I changed it and the light came back after it was reset.

Please tell me what this means and what I have to change. Another big problem with my car is that when I'm driving and the car changes gears automatically (it's an automatic), it jerks. It's almost like it has no power then all of a sudden it bangs loudly and then it takes off, giving a big jerk. It also bangs loudly when I put it in drive or reverse. I checked my motor mounts and they're fine. Could it be the air temp signal sensor causing these problems or the transmission? Please help me ASAP! Thank you.

It's your battery.

Seriously.

Or its connections/cables. The cable connections should be shiny brite, free of all corrosion.
Including WITHIN the molded red rubber positive boot, which can corrode into nothing, sight unseen.

At three+ years old, the battery is about due for replacement, so it may be weak.

The tranny first gear is operated by an electric solenoid, which requires a fair amount of amperage.
A low battery or poor connections will really affect the take-off in first gear.
Kinda scares the c**p out of you when you floor it to go left in front of oncoming traffic, only to find it seems to be slipping like hell.

Poor connection/bad battery also does weird things to gages and sensors.

The Intake Air Temp sensor is NOT the same as the MAF.
The IAT is stuck in the upper rear corner of the air filter box lid (at least on the '96 3.1). It's just a little thing, fingertip size, with a connector and couple of wires.
Might have loose connectors, might be dirty, might be faulty.
Shouldn't be too expensive.

Good luck.

The IAT code could be as simple as a loose connection.
Not sure about the pressure switch.
Check the tranny fluid, sounds like its low. If the solinoids were sticking or not working, the PCM would kick the MIL/SES light on.

P0113=Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High Input

P1111=IAT Sensor Circuit Intermittent Voltage High

P1189=Engine Oil Pressure Switch Circuit

I Think that either the IAT has a bad connection or maybe it has gone bad. As for the endine pressure switch I don't know
