about sanding.......

I've got my front bumper back on,wet sanding it helped a lot,got a couple runs out and got rid of the orange peel effect I got...However my side skirt is going to need to be re-painted,the paint would not stick and just ran. Now, when I was spraying it kind of looked like the the paint was coming out splotty. It was going fine but after I put one coat on and let it start to dry it started running? I was thinking maybe because I snaded the primer too smooth and there wasn't anything for the paint to grab on to. So what grit sand paper should I use before I re-paint it?

500 is what we use on areas that are gonna be painted and looks good maybe the highest i would think off would be 600

hmmm......ok....cuz I wet sanded the primer with 600 and it was pretty smooth after we got done with it.I guess maybe if i just dry sanded it would be different then.I can always give a try,thnx:)
