I don't think anyones done it but maybe someone will have advice on this, I'm going to fiberglass my dash to get the hard look, and so I can move some stuff around, now the question I have it, do I need to strip the vinyl off down to the plastic below, or can I lay my mat over the top of the vinyl, I can get it to stick to the vinyl so it won't just be a shell, but I'm not sure if I'll still have a slightly spongy surface because of it, although I could add extra layers of glass, but nonetheless, I'd like some info!

I would recomend you drill some holes through out the piece so the fiberglass can have an anchor. Just put some resin on the back of the piece but make sure to rough it up with 80 grit sandpaper first. Basically making a fiberglass sandwich.

Dowmace, what was suggested... about the holes... that is what I had planned to do with mine... once I get the chance. Let me know how yours turns out.

Why not rip the vinyl off, staple on some fleece in its place, then douse the fleece with resin and lay your mat? Seems like the simplest way to me, and it'd work great. It's not like you're trying to 'glass to plastic, which would require you to drill holes and then fleece and resin and mat.

when I get the dash off the next time I'll look and see how the "skeleton" looks, I'm not sure how much is actually plastic

well hopefully I'll be able to start on my door panels tomorrow if I can finish up my radio plastic, then I'll rip the vinyl off the door panels and start on them and see how I'm going to do the dash
