Hi
My Daughters 1993 2.3l sohc is having problems. When you stsrt the car it sounds normal but as it warms up you start to hear a knock. When you rev the motor the knock gets a lot louder.I am thinking she spun a main bearing because the noise under load and higher rpms knock.
I am looking to just swap engines because she has put alot of money into the suspesion and tires latly ($700) Plus new compurter ($250)
I want to get a dohc to install for her but when i started looking i am finding info for 1993 only. there has to be other years that will fit in to the car with out to much problems.
thanks for the help Ray in Seattle

I would say that any '89-'94 engine would fit without too much trouble.

Can you tell where the noise is coming from? It could be the timing chain being noisy...

i would stay away from any early quad 4s, they had headgasket problems, the 91-94 quads were better.

Shows your every car that came with a 2.3 quad 4

For ease of swap (direct fit) stick with a 92,93,94 Quad 4 DOHC "LD2" (vin code D)

Avoid pre-92 engines, since they do not have the axial engine mounts your 93 chassis has.

Also avoid 95, too many revisions. (sensors, electrical, power steering, etc)

I did change the timing chain when she first got it. It wasn't running and it turned out to be the coil pack. The car has 200,000 at miles so if i have to change it not really a big deal. thanks for the help
