Has anyone looked into this idea? It's what like a 170hp on a stock 3.4 and 210hp on a stock dohc, well roughly in that area anyway.
Is this a realistic idea without getting way too in depth in the custom modification to make it work?

If it's not too much of a hassle for 40hp gain it would be worth a little effort.

well i asked specifically about the DOHC to my dad which sells car parts and a very knowledgeable mechanic... i was comparing the 2 engines.. he says stay away from the DOHC... they are expensive parts since the engine wasnt used in much.. and they are problematic.. since alot of people buy parts for em... personally putting in a 50 hp shot of NOS would be a better bet.. but thats just me

for what i know the 3.4 DOHC are junk and are expensive to find parts for, ur best bet is to stay with what u got, we had a Lumina Z34 with that motor at my high school and it didnt seem like it had any power and it was a 5 speed

In the end when all is said and done I want to have a 275-350 hp GA.

I think you would be much better off modding the engine you have.

Stick to what everyone else is telling you. Yes, the 3.4L DOHC found in the Z34 Lumina was a problematic engine with more expensive parts than the 3400 found in a GA. Sweet idea, but the engine just isnt reliable. If yoru really intent on an engine upgrade, look at the 3800. Its will give you about 30 hp more and is a solid engine.

i will have to strongly agree with Neo-Blue99GASE, the 3800 is probley the best engine GM built besides the 4.3 liter found in S-10's. Plus they have a SuperCharger for that motor, yea u can get the power u want out of it

The new 3500 is also a good option with 200 HP stock that'll drop right in. If you're looking at getting to 300+ HP be prepared to splurge on tranny fortification.

The engine swap stories are like beating a dead horse in my opinion. I know of 2 that have actually been done, however I'm not aware of a how to on either of them
