The countdown is on I have seven more days with my baby. Seven more days of having a nice car before i put it away for the long crappy rochester winter. I will be cruising in a 1990 plymouth sundance.
And yes I promise to beat the living s--t out of the sundance, crash it into every snow bank and pull the e-brake around every icy turn. I will let my emotions of not being in a grand am rage as i push this car to it's limits. The sundance will be dead when i am through with it.
As for the grand am it will come out of storage with a carbon fiber hood and hopefully the first place it will go is to have two tone katzkin leather interior installed.

Does anyone else have to store there grand am for the winter?

If I could I would do the same thing with mine because I have a 95 neon sitting in my driveway that I wanna beat up but I can't pay insurance on both.

I bet you can't kill it. I had a 1986 Plymouth Caravelle that I was driving before I got my current car. I beat the shit out of that car for two months and I couldn't kill it. I would do full-throttle runs all of the time. My tires were slicks by the time I got done with them. It pissed me off that the car could still be driven when they took it to the crusher so I took all of the fuses and battery out.

The only way I would store my car for the winter would be if I had bought it brand new, other than that, I couldn't really afford to do it, lol.

I have to drive my baby year round as well. If I had a Body kit, or if it became too much of a show car, id park it, but untill that time, its a sweet assed winter car that can definatly perform. Its funny because just last weekend I was doing huge donuts in an empty parking lot at 3 in the morning with the underbodies on. It must have looked pretty cool because I was doing it in a foot of snow ;) and my car is a dirty mess now.

I got mine ready for the Quebec winter yesterday. I installed brand new BF Goodrich Winter Slalom tires and new winter wiper blades. I hope that this winter won't be as cold as the last one.

Dang I can't afford two cars just for me. Plus I also have to park outside year around. I just hate the ice which we seem to get a lot of. Lots of salt too. One reasion I don't lower my car, it's like a snowplow like it is now.

Im gonna throw my stock rims back on it, and I'll prolly drive it a couple of times this winter, just to move it whenever i got somethin to do with it (mod wise)... but yeah, I really need to find a place to park it now... lol.

Mine will officially hit storage this weekend.

I have a daily driver that I drive most of the time anyway that doubles as the winter vehicle. A 2000 S-10.

... GEEEZ, if my car spends any more time in a garage I might as well sell it :wink4: ... technically, it is in there but I might take it out one day soon for a drive if it is a nice day but for the past week or so we have had frost in the mornings which puts a damper on my interest in cars anyway :(

Part of the reason my car is in decent shape. Been a texas car for all it's life. That's also why the hood is faded. But the dash is still good. I need better tires for our "wet season" though.

no offense to anyone, but i dont get why some of you would park your car for the winter. Its not like a grand am is some great car. If you have a body kit/ lots of mods i understand, but soem of you have tint and thats all. That cars nothin special (mine isnt either dont worry). Mayb i dont understand it, but i htink its stupid to garage a near stock grand am

wow, you guys are putting your cars away soon....

... both the DeVille's are going to sleep in December... my insurance payment is do the 6th, at that time I am getting "withdrawn from use" on the '93... I pay 25% of the normal payments (my insurance payments will go down $100/month now) and the is still covered, and the plates get to stay on it, but it can't be driven all the time... maybe twice a month or so you can take it out...

the '79 costs $120/yr.... if that for full coverage (classic car :) ) so that will remain the same...

my winter car is the Olds... again... which is also a daily driver, work car, good on gas car, car to pull small utility trialer (once i put the hitch on it) and the car my mother is using while her car is getting fixed... Although I am not really switchign anything around this year (last year I siwtched plates etc...) as I already have all 3 cars on the road :)

my uncle is letting me keep my cars at his property (well, one of them) there is a nice garage I can fit 4 cars in etc... but it is set back from the road... so with all the snow, it may be fun trying to get the car from the garage to the road to try and drive them.... we'll have to see.... atleast they are in doors though....

blckgrndam99.... dosn't really matter what kind of a car it is.... to many people a Grand Am is "just" a family sedan like a Camry or Accord.... to others it is their hobby, to many people a DeVille is a luxury car for driving on the highway, for me it is alot more, and different then that.... that is the difference between someone being a car enthuiest and an average Joe....

Keeping the car off the road for the winters dramatically helps with rust, especially underbody.... keeps everything new... salt eats the paint, and anything rubber etc... both the '79 and '93 DeVille are Florida cars.... and they show it.. on the '93 it has the normal surface rust on the engine cradel etc.... everything else is clean.... the Olds was bought locally when new, and used durring the winters... the exhaust system is rusty, the heat shield on the cat is now missing, it is rotting away for the muffler, alot of the rubber bushings are dired out more then normal, the underbody is rusty etc.... dosn't really mean anything is wrong.. it is a 15 year old car, and all, and i will keep driving it as it has plenty of life left in it... but I can't see myself keeping "my" 1989 Eighty Eight forever... or expecting it to last as long as the DeVille's..... the rust will just consume it before the enigne ever quits.... I fixed the minimal rust ont he outside (lower right quarter panel, behind the wheel) everything else is under body... so hopefully it won't get too bad... with 123k on clock, hopefully the tranny will have more life left... as the car is getting a hitch installed and I will be towing a small utility trailer with it... infact I assume the tranny will go around 160k-180k.... if i get it fixed or not... depends on many things... I know the 3800 V6 will last much longer then that... wonder how the body will hold up...

Just becuase somebody dosn't have $10k invested into their car to make it a shower winner, does not mean it isn't important to them either.... alot of times a car can be completly stock, and it is just the personality of the car that is different.... and all cars have different personalites too :)

Thank God I don't reside up north, just for the reasons stated by Night Wolf.......salt, snow ect......yuck. My GT is a Mississippi car and all it has seen is rain. But when my hubby gets back from deployment we are getting a Caravan or Durango to haul the youngin's, and as a long hauler...trips ect. The GT will then by my pet project for weekends and an occasional trip to the dollar store.

And as far as it not being "a car to park 'cause GA's aren't that great anyway".........I love the GT as much as my buddy who just purchased his $55K BMW M3 loves his car.......it's all in how you persieve your ride. :D

Well personally, I like my car a lot, and it may be a lil rare being that it has leather. Aside from that, I HATE starting over on mods with cars, especially when you were a long ways and you had to sell it or something.

One more thing, I'm not storing it because of salt / snow, I'm storing it because I don't need anus's that don't know how to drive in the winter hit it... they can hit the shadow... thats why I have a winter car.

And no matter WHAT car anyone has, its all in the eye of the beholder... some people would say "why would you park a taurus or spirit for winter?" "Well maybe its an R/T or an SHO." Still not a "great car" as some would say... but to others it would hold a lot of value.

The end

bobgagt you summed it up well!
I have a kit, rims. and it's lowered it's physically impossible to drive my car in snow, my body kit would be cracked in a thousand spots. And, i drove my car when it was just lowered in the winter what a bumpy ride, not very fun.

And, if your grand am isn't important to you, why do you belong to a club and waste your time talking about a crappy car!:chair:

Put mine away a few weeks ago. 2003 30th aniversary SCT in fusion orange. NEVER seen snow or salt, only 9969 miles on her. It will be nice to have a 2 year old car with less than 10K miles on it. My car is lowered, and in Wisconsin, lowered could sometimes cause problems. My winter car is a 2004 Toyota Solara SLE v6, and honestly, i dont like it. I would love to trade it in next summer for a sportier GM. We'll see though.
