Has anyone w/ a regular Gt (or SE) added the GT1 steering wheel w/ the radio controls? I am considering adding that to my car but am unsure about a couple of things.
If you didn't origionally have the GT1 wheel is the wiring harness & plug still present in the steering column or will I have to get that & feed it up through the column myself? Also Am I safe to assume that I can just plug it into my Monsoon H.U.?
Any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated. I've played with & tweaked my Monsoon quite a bit but this is uncovered territory for me.:)

Not sure man, I have the controls on my 96, and to be honest I would think that adding them in woudl be more work then its worth

sure it couldnt be two hard. go to a gm and as mr goodwrench all you have to do is replace the wheel and run a harness around to the back to the radio

it might be a pain to pull the steering wheel. if youve never done it then yo might want to get help from someone who has. youve gotta line it up right and torque it down right.

oh and its just 1 wire...theres different voltages for different commands. the thing is...the wire runs into the regular GM wiring harness to plug into a factory radio.

No problem w/ the wheel. I'm a body/paint man. Just some questions on the wire though. Where will it plug into the harness at? Will it plug in inside the cloumn w/ the cruise wires into the same harness? & will I need to buy a patch wire to run between the wheel & the harness?
Thanks!:)

i have no clue whats already there to tell you the truth. i just know that when i hooked up my controls to my aftermarket radio there was one wire in the factory harness that got all of the commands. that leads me to believe that only one wire comes off the controls in the steering wheel.

I asked my dealership last week how much it would be to replace my steering wheel with the leather wrapped one... they told me they would probally charge me in the $20 - $30 range for labor. It shouldnt be much more to hook that wire in. The only reason why I was going to do that is because the bolts that hold the steering wheel on are underneath the airbag, and I didn't wanna play with the airbag.

Ryan of GrafxWerks (http://www.grafxwerks.com) and N-Body.net (http://www.n-body.net) did this with his 2000. IIRC, it was quite an endeavor, and he was not reccomending anyone attempt the switch.

Cool, thanks, I'll hafta ask him. As far as the steering wheel & airbag removal-no prob. I'm used to that. Running my own wire wouldn't be a big deal either. I'd just like to know if I'll need to run my own wire or where to tap into the factory harness, etc. Nice to know these things before you tear into em so you're not stuck w/ a torn down car while you're waiting on parts.:)
