just wondering if there is different sizes of resistors and if so what size is needed and do you only have to have one at beging of led strand or one per light????

You only need one resistor per 2 or 3 lights if you run them in a series. You can put them on either side. As for the size, I can't remember what size you should use for 12V. This will probably help you out http://wolfstone.halloweenhost.com/TechBase/litled_LEDCalc.html. It's a resistor calculator for LEDs.

LED resistor calculator (http://www.markhannahsurplus.com/led-resistorcalc.htm)
This one will do that calculation for both series and parallel LEDs.
