Just had my car broken into last week and had my stereo stolen. Got lazy with the face plate and paid for it. My car isnt woth that much and my new deck was only 200 so I dont want to really spend any money on an alarm. I was thinking about just getting some car alarm stickers off ebay or any store people might know of. Would this help or not because there would be no flashing light to make it appear there is actually an alarm in the car. Is there anything else i could do that wouldnt break my bank(maybe a good cheap alarm, if there is such a thing)? Nothing is in sight now and I do have a club even though it barely helps, and I will be removing the face plate. 6 others cars where hit but they didnt touch my fiances car because she had an alarm on her car (with stickers)

No I'd say that won't help much.

A standard alarm / keyless entry will run you about $50 on ebay and will be pretty simple to install if you can handle basic wiring. I think its the combination of the stickers and some nice bright alarm led's that would deter theft... and if it doesn't, pulling the door handle will send them the message as the siren goes off.

However, if a theif REALLY WANTS what you have, he'll find a way of getting it. In my case it may be a little more difficult for him as I have a paging car alarm with an additional siren on the interior of the car... yea that hurts.

But just go get an alarm and throw it in there... its peace of mind... and one more big theft deterence imo is taking the face off of your deck. If you got the face off, a flashing alarm led (or better yet two), and the little warning sticker why would anyone waste their time trying to break in?

No, that won't help. I see alot of people driving around Wisconsin too with insurance stickers on their car like State Farm on their back bumper why stick them on your car if somebody wants to hit your car or damage the damn stickers won't help. I got state farm insurance but I don't advertise them on my car:)

you can get the sticker, then get a flashing led kit from radio shack for like $3, runs on a 9V and mine is still flashing in a hudge a$$ camera housing that i got over my garage door... no camera of course, but the led blinks to get attention... will run forever... just another cheap ass idea..

If you want a cheap alarm substitution you could get a siren a toggle switch and a flashing automotive LED, such as the hyper LED's from Varad. Wire the positive lead of the siren to a 12V constant source, wire the negative lead to one lead on the switch, and then wire the other lead from the switch to the domelight circuit. Mount the switch, somewhere accessible from the outside of the car, but hidden so only you know where it is so that you can shut off the siren before you get in the car. Then wire the led + to constant 12V, and - to the pink ignition wire, and mount somewhere visible in the dash. When you turn off the car the LED will automatically come on and with the switch on, if the domelight is triggered, such as lifting the doorhandle or opening the door it will set off the siren. You're looking about about $25 in parts. Of course this won't replace a real alarm.

it's already been mentioned, but a flashing light and a couple alarm stickers are the cheapest way of imitating an alarm.

A guy I know had a alarm system. One night it went off for no apparent reason. A week later his car gets broken into and his sound system gets ripped off.

My best guess is that they tried the first time and got scared off by the alarm. When they came back, they reached in through the left nostril, opened the hood and cut the power wires off the battery. If you look at your hood release you can see it's open at the bottom and you can pull the cable to pop the hood. The bad guys went to school and learned how to break into a GA. Then they went around to the trunk, pried it open and took the amps and speakers.

Maybe another alarm switch that makes when the hood was raised would have put them off another week. Maybe a shield that covers the bottom of the hood release would help too.

I don't think these guys would have run away if you had a sticker or a flashing LED light. Maybe a alarm system would make them look for easier prey. If you got what they want, they'll get it somehow. The best bet is to not let them know what you got. Park it in a secure place like a locked garage or have lights on motion detectors if parked outside.

I wouldn't worry about the alarm unless you plan on being lazy about your $200 deck again.

Being aware of what you do with your car is probably the most helpful thing.

Don't play your stereo loudly around malls or in areas where people will notice you.

Don't put 'Steal Me!' stickers on your car. You know the ones that say Rockford, Kicker, I have a loud stereo please rip me off, etc...

Alarms are easily defeated, and nothing will deter a determined thief. I saw a truck get stolen years ago down in Florida at an IASCA event. They had parked the truck head-in to a cement & steel pylon. The co pilot's vehicle was pulled in behind it, and the battery was removed. The thieves ripped the pylon out, and drove off in the truck after disabling the alarm.

My friend who used to compete actually has bolt locks on his hood and trunk to keep them from being opened, even in the event of the battery being removed. There is a hidden spot to connect a pair of jumper cables in case of a dead battery to unlock things.

Yea and i talked to a ricer, he said that if you add 2 stickers on the back side windows, you should get at least 5 horsepower each and it should cut drag by about .0367 each also.

Well tonight at work two of my friends got their stuff stolen. Another guy's alarm got set off... they didn't touch my car. I'd like to think that they didn't want to f with it because they saw the leds for the alarm and the sticker, but idk. This sucks though, I hate people that have no respect to do stuff like that. But these guys had no alarm or anything and they played it loud at and before / after work so...

So thats the last time the GA goes to work with me :(
